Location: Niland, California (East Salton Sea)
GPS: 33.39971, -115.66347
Price: $9.95 (first time visitor promotional price)
Overview: After leaving Desert Hot Springs, our plan was to stay in the California desert until January 15th (Xscapers Convergence in Quartzsite). We stumbled upon FOY’s promotion while surfing the web. Including full hook-ups and numerous spa tubs, we couldn’t resist the offer!
Date/Temperature: December 24-29, the highs were mid-60s, with lows of mid-30s.
Noise: The 1000-site resort is very quiet considering its size. We heard minimal dog barking, one ambulance, and occasional conversation of passer-bys.
Wifi/Cell: Our AT&T service was strong. Most of the campers here seem to be on the Verizon Network; AT&T was never bogged down during our stay. Our T-Mobile hotspot had two bars of 4G. After carefull placement, we could easily stream unlimited Netflix (thanks to Binge On) and unlimited Spotify (thanks to Music Freedom)!
Grocery/Errands: Downtown Niland is 10 miles away. They have a grocery store, restaurant, and post office. We’d recommend stocking up on supplies before arrival. On our way down we stocked up at Indio. A traveling produce stand visits the park twice a week.
Entertainment: The resort offers a daily schedule of activities ranging from a talent show to poker. We soaked in the hot baths every night. If you want to explore outside of the park, Slab City is only 20 minutes away and its definitely worth a visit.
Our Overall Experience: We really enjoyed the comfort of amenities at Fountain of Youth. There were many working-age fulltimers here during our stay. It was great to connect with likeminded folks and share stories over community meals. We befriended Nosh Bus, The Roaming Pint, and LiveWorkDream. This isn’t a park we’d pay full price for; but, at $9.95 a night it was a no-brainer. Exploring Slab City – East Jesus, in particular – was very enriching.
