BEST IN TOWN: Bottomless Lakes State Park in Roswell, New Mexico

Roswell, New Mexico, has been on our list of places to visit since we began our journey in September. We’re both intrigued by the supernatural and the idea of alien life.

However, we didn’t set our expectations too high.

Our search for centralized RV parks resulted in several rundown gravel parking lots.

Bottomless Lakes State Park entered the radar as we expanded our search radius outside of the city. With the option of waterfront camping, Bottomless Lakes was an easy choice.

Amenities: The park offers a water source, dump station, trash cans, free wifi, flush toilets, showers, and a hiking trail.

Noise: Bottomless Lakes is a typical state park. The traffic is steady but never too noisy. We heard an occasional vehicle and a few barking dogs (sometimes our own)!

Wifi/Cell: The free wireless internet at Bottomless Lakes is amazing. We stayed connected our entire time here and streamed Hulu, uploaded YouTube videos, and surfed the web. This is, by far, the best free wifi we’ve received at any park – public or private! Traditional cellular carries should also receive good service.

Grocery/Errands: Downtown Roswell is ten miles away and has everything we need. While we would’ve preferred Trader Joe’s,  we settled for Walmart. Roswell is basically a giant strip mall with a large selection of fast food and discount retailers.

The Nationally famous extraterrestrial McDonalds is also located nearby.

Dog Friendly: The state park is very dog-friendly. The campsites are spacious, allowing our pup to have room to play on her line. There is also a dog-friendly hiking trail.

Entertainment: Aliens! UFOs! Extraterrestrials! We recommend checking out these seven if you long for more UFO hot spots.
