Long Ridge Campground: A Hidden Gem in Hiawassee, Georgia

Our stay at Long Ridge Campground in Hiawassee, Georgia, was a pleasant surprise!

Before we focused on getting up to the Great Lakes for the summer, we attended a molded fiberglass camper rally in Hiawassee, Georgia. Last month, we made reservations for the rally at Riverbed RV Park – with an arrival date of May 19th.

We moved faster than expected and pulled into Hiawassee on Monday, the 16th, with no reservations! That’s when we discovered Long Ridge Campground.

Here’s our personal experience of Long Ridge Campground:

Location: Hiawassee, Georgia

GPS: 34.92645, -83.77849

Price: $35/night and up. Most current rates can be found here.

Date/Temp: We camped here for three nights in mid-May. The highs were in the low 80s, and the lows were in the high 50s.

Amenities: The park offers a rustic setting in the north Georgia mountains. There’s a catch-release fishing pond and a creek running through the campground. Long Ridge Campground also provides a bathroom/shower building. It’s small and outhouse-ish, but very clean. They have a general store and sell firewood, too.

Noise: This is one of the quietest campgrounds we’ve visited. The clientele here seems to be very respectful and chill.

Wifi/Cell: Free Wi-Fi is provided, and it works impressively well. We uploaded videos to YouTube, streamed music & movies, and did typical web browsing without interruptions. Our AT&T service was solid and fast, but our T-Mobile was weak at Long Ridge Campground.

Grocery/Errands: Downtown Hiawassee is about 4 miles from camp. It’s a good-sized town with multiple grocery stores, hardware stores, a post office, and a vast produce stand. We were able to take care of our errands quickly and easily.

Dog Friendly: Long Ridge Campground welcomes well-behaved dogs with responsible owners. It’s a nice park for walking dogs, as it’s spread out, has elevation changes, and a creek they can play in.

Entertainment: There’s plenty to do in Hiawassee and the surrounding area. We visited the Bavarian town of Helen (20 miles away) and hiked on the Appalachian Trail while at Long Ridge Campground. Check out the video below!

  1. HI! Do you know what the regular fee is without Passport America? 🙂 Also, did you see some bigger rigs there? Sounds like a really nice place, might check it out. Thanks!

  2. The normal fee is $30. It is big rig friendly, but there’s a very sharp turn upon entrance that could be difficult to navigate. Here’s a link to TripAdvisor reviews from the perspective of big rig owners: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g35007-d6700644-Reviews-Long_Ridge_Campground-Hiawassee_Georgia.html
