BEST IN TOWN: Betsie River Campsite in Frankfort, Michigan

We pulled into Betsie River Campsite in Frankfort, Michigan, and fell in love with the area as we’re inching north daily, and the views become increasingly beautiful.

The coastal community offers a historic downtown with modern dining and miles of beachfront parks. The Betsie Valley Trail runs right in front of the campground and winds through Lake Betsie and into the expansive Lake Michigan.

Here’s our personal experience of Betsie River Campsite:

Location: Frankfort, Michigan

GPS: 44.61842, -86.21477

Price: Here are the current camping options and pricing.

Date/Temp: The weather was perfect during our stay. The days were a sunny 65 degrees, and the lows dropped into the mid-40s. We camped here from June 7-10th.

Amenities: The RV sites offer water & electric hookups, and the campground has free internet that works well. We streamed movies and uploaded videos to our YouTube channel.

There’s also a cafe at Betsie River Campsite that serves breakfast and lunch. If you’re looking for daily activities, bike & kayak rentals are available. There’s a central bathhouse with toilets and showers – during our stay, it remained spotless.

Noise: Betsie River Campsite was very peaceful. Regular foot traffic and conversation occurred during the day and campfires into the evening. This is a family-friendly park where the visitors seem to respect each other.

Wifi/Cell: Our T-Mobile hotspot received 4G service, and our AT&T had a solid 4G LTE connection. The park’s wifi worked great, and we remained connected throughout our visit.

Grocery/Errands: The town of Frankfort is a mile away and had everything we needed. The grocery store, post office, shopping, and dining are all a short drive away.

Dog Friendly: Betsie River Campsite and the town are dog friendly. We could walk our dog on the beach and let her test the waters of Lake Michigan. The city also offers free doggy bags to encourage owners to pick up after their pets.

Entertainment: The hiking trails were our favorite form of entertainment. We could hop onto the Betsie Valley Trail from Betsie River Campsite and walk through downtown and to the beaches of Lake Michigan. There are multiple lighthouses, antique shops, and ice cream parlors to check out, too!

If you’re up for a 20-mile adventure, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located north in Empire, Michigan.
