BEST IN TOWN: Waterways Campground in Cheboygan, Michigan

As our travels along the Michigan waterfront continued, we decided to camp at Waterways Campground in Cheboygan, Michigan; the last stop of our “lower peninsula” tour.

The park was beautiful and well-kept, featuring a waterfront dock and grassy fields.

Here’s our experience:

Location: 9575 HWY M-33, Cheboygan, MI 49721

GPS: 45.59732, -84.47440

Price: Here are the current rates and camping options.

Date/Temp: June 17-20, the weather was warm with highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s

Amenities: The park offers all the amenities of a full service campground; water, electric, sewer, trash receptacles, playground, game room, and fire pits. They also have some special amenities like fast & functional wifi, a beautiful dock & boat ramp, and great hiking trails.

Noise: While quiet hours start at 10pm, there was never much noise to begin with. We heard a few big rigs pulling in and occasional  conversation, but the park was peaceful and relaxing.

Wifi/Cell: Michigan has lots of T-Mobile cell towers – We received 4G LTE, again, with our T-Mobile hotspot! Our AT&T received a medium 4G signal.

Best of all, the campground had fast internet. We were able to quickly upload YouTube videos and stream movies with the free wifi.

Grocery/Errands: Waterways Campground is two miles away from multiple grocery stores and fast food options. Downtown Cheboygan is only three miles away. We were able to easily complete all of our errands within a three mile radius.

Dog Friendly: The campground is dog friendly. There are many grassy areas for short dog-walks. For more intense doggy exercise, the North Central State Hiking Trail connects to the park and allows dogs.

Entertainment: During our stay at Waterways we roamed the streets of Cheboygan, exploring a local craft fair, car show, and waterfront park. Our favorite activity was hiking the North Central State Trail; its 64 miles long, well maintained, and offers scenic views.
