After spending four days in Hill City, we wanted to further explore the Black Hills of South Dakota. This gave us the perfect opportunity to pamper ourselves at Rushmore Shadows Resort and explore the area for a few more days.

Here’s the Breakdown

Location: Rapid City, South Dakota

GPS: 43.97495, -103.32711

Date/Temp: We stayed at Rushmore Shadows for four nights in late July. The highs were in the low 90s and the lows were around 60.

Amenities: Rushmore Shadows Resort is well deserving of the “resort” title. The bathroom and shower facilities are the best we’ve seen in any park. The tile walls and floors were always clean, and the showers were completely private. The resort also offers a pool & hot tub area, a huge dog park, and level sites with full hookups.

Noise: The sites are pretty close to each other, but we never noticed it being loud. There’s a mix of weekend campers and fulltimers; all of the guests we encountered were kind and respectful.

Wifi/Cell: The park offers fast wifi that remained usable during our entire stay. We streamed movies and uploaded YouTube videos with ease. Our T-Mobile service received a spotty 3g connection.

Grocery/Errands: Downtown Rapid City is located about 9 miles from the park. There are multiple Walmarts, gas stations, and restaurants. We took advantage of a local health food store and post office. Rapid City had everything we needed and way more.

Dog Friendly: Rushmore Shadows is very dog friendly. The dog park is large and well maintained. There are also doggy waste-bag stations located throughout the grounds. We saw many campers spending the weekend with their furry friends.

Entertainment: The Black Hills offer so much to do. We really enjoyed Needles Highway and the Wildlife loop located inside Custer State Park. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, and Hill City were some of our other favorite places to tour.
