This week our RV Life Q&A is all about outdoor entertainment. Over the weekend we posted a picture of “Outdoor Movie Night” and received tons of inquiries about how we set it up. Today we’ll explain each component involved and hopefully give you some ideas for your next outdoor event!

We’re currently boondocking deep in the Ajo desert with absolutely no amenities. It makes for the perfect nighttime movie environment, but comes with a unique set of challenges since there are no hookups or speedy wifi.

Below you’ll find the five components that made this successful movie night possible.

#1 – Internet

Since we don’t own a DVD player, internet is essential for our movie & TV viewing. Unfortunately, there’s not always a lot of it available when we’re camped in the boonies.

In the Ajo desert, our T-Mobile hotspot received no network connection. However, once we powered up our WeBoost cell booster, we were able to connect to T-Mobile’s 4G network! This was the first step to a great movie night!

#2 – Laptop

We used our laptop to stream the movie, but an iPad, iPhone or DVD player would all work with our current set up. I’m sure other smart phones would work as well.

#3 – Rif 6 Cube Projector

This is the star of the show! The Rif6 is a tiny (2 cubic inches) projector with a lot of power. It has adaptors for many different devices, but uses a tradition HDMI outlet to connect. The Rif6 charges with a USB connection. This makes it easy to stay charged; we just keep it plugged into the laptop during the entire movie so it doesn’t run out of battery.

The projector also has built in sound (however, we prefer connecting a bluetooth speaker).

#4 – Braven Bluetooth Speaker

This is our go-to speaker for all outdoor activities. We just connected it to the laptop and it puts out enough sound to get that “loud theater experience”. The Braven has an indoor & outdoor audio option. The outdoor setting has less bass, but projects the sound much further.

Any bluetooth speak would do the job, it’s just a matter of preference. But, if you don’t own one yet, we highly recommend it. We love to carry it around with us and listen to music on all of our adventures.

#5 – Goal Zero’s Sherpa 100

The Sherpa 100 is a portable charging with numerous inputs. We set up the unit next to the laptop & projector and plugged in all of our devices so they wouldn’t loose charge throughout the movie. If you’re good at planning ahead, the Goal Zero isn’t necessary. We, unfortunately, never have our devices fully charged and the Goal Zero really helps on these occasions.
