Free Camping at Strawberry Reservoir, Utah

After spending 5 days at the beautiful Mountain Valley RV Resort, it was time to get back out in nature! We found a couple boondocking options 25 miles south of Heber City, UT at Strawberry Reservoir.

The first site, Clyde Creek Road, was full to the brim. Just a mile west was Mud Creek Road – we found a site here perfect for our needs.

The site can accommodate big rigs – some low sitting Class A’s might have a challenging time finding a spot, but any size 5th Wheel should probably be ok.

Here’s the Breakdown:

Location: Mud Creek Road at Strawberry Reservoir, Utah

GPS: 40.2025, -111.1935

Date / Temp: We camped here for 5 nights in late August. Daytime temps got up to the high 80s. With no shade, every day at 4pm we drove into town to beat the heat. Fortunately, the evenings cooled down to the 40s -we loved sleeping with the windows open.

Amenities: This site offers no services and practices “Pack In, Pack Out”. One mile west, at the National Forest Campground, you can dump your tanks, access potable water, and use their trash receptacles.

Wifi / Cell: We received three bars of 4G AT&T without the booster – with data speeds under 1 Mbps up & down. Once we boosted the signal with our WeBoost, we received full bars and data speeds of 2Mbps. This was enough to stream Netflix.

Noise:Β This site is pretty quiet. There were many RVers on this road, but we were well spaced. We could hear distant generators hum, but nothing that annoyed us.

Grocery / Errands: Downtown Heber City is about 25 miles from the site. It has all the shopping we needed and then some. The 50 mile round trip wasn’t bad, in fact we enjoyed the trip to escape the hottest part of the afternoon.

Dog Friendly: This site is dog friendly. River had a lot of space to play and explore.Β

Entertainment: The nearby reservoir is a hot spot for fishing. Also, ATV riding is a popular activity around the area. We enjoyed getting work done during the day and relaxing in the cool evenings.
