As we worked our way from Strawberry Reservoir to Moab, Utah, Olivia found an epic free campsite. Wedge Overlook at Little Grand Canyon (Utah) is a beautiful, free campsite about 35 miles south of Price City.
After 20 miles of dirt road (super high quality), we were amazed by the stunning views and total privacy. We wouldn’t recommend it for Class A’s or huge 5th Wheels, but most rigs 25 feet and smaller should be able to find a spot.
Here’s Our Personal Experience:
Location: Wedge Overlook at Little Grand Canyon, Utah
GPS: 39.0932, -110.7589
Date / Temp: We camped here for four nights in early September. The highs varied from mid-80s to low 90s. The nights we in the 60s. With minimal shade, we usually took a trip into town during the hottest part of the day to beat the heat.
Amenities: This site offers no services. Practice a strict “Pack In, Pack Out” policy. There is one vault toilet located near the group campsite. We noticed a public water spigot in front of the Huntington Post Office.
Here’s a list of free places to fill fresh water before arriving.
Wifi / Cell: We received a strong 4G LTE signal with both AT&T and T-Mobile. The speeds were fast, allowing us to stream movies and upload YouTube videos with ease.
Noise: This site is super quiet and private. There are so many camping sites here – if you don’t want neighbors, you can easily make that happen. We camped in one of the most popular areas and still only saw a few folks during our entire stay.
Grocery / Errands: Downtown Huntington is 20 miles away – they have a Family Dollar, grocery store, and Subway. Price City is 35 miles from camp – you can find more shopping & services there, including a Walmart.
Dog Friendly: This site is dog friendly. River had a lot of space to play and explore.
Entertainment: Hiking, ATVing and mountain biking are the most popular activities at Little Grand Canyon. We enjoyed hiking along the canyon’s edge every day.

My wife, our cat and I spend our summers refilling the stash so we can spend our winters on the road between Yellowknife and Central America. Our cat is a pretty chill traveler but unfortunately, he doesn’t enjoy hikes like your dog does,…Looking forward to more videos from you!
What route did you take from the closest pavement and how was the road?
A few different routes one day from Huntington, one day from Price, and on our final day we exited taking the dirt roads all the way to I-70
How wash boarded were the dirt roads?
The roads from Huntington & Price weren’t washboarded at all. The road to I-70 had a few small washboard sections
Thanks. I have avoided heading out that way with the travel trailer not knowing road conditions. Have always boondocked along the paved roads in the Swell.
