Free Camping for Zion National Park

After spending a week in Moab, we decided to hurry over to Zion National Park to catch some mild temps and fall colors.

We landed at the North Creek boondocking area on BLM land in Virgin, Utah (12 miles from Zion). The site can fit 20+ campers, but is very limited on space for big rigs – possibly 3 or 4 large units can fit. We recommend it for tents, vans, and small travel trailers.

Here’s our personal experience:

Location: Virgin, Utah

GPS37.2203, -113.1616

Date / Temp: We camped here for five nights in mid-October. The daytime highs were about 80 degrees with nights in the 50s.

Amenities: This site offers no amenities and practices a “Pack In, Pack Out” policy.  Water may be available at a few gas stations in Hurricane, UT – but, we can’t confirm it.

Wifi / Cell: We received a 4G LTE signal with AT&T and T-Mobile (using our WeBoost Cell Booster). The speeds were excellent. We could stream Netflix & upload YouTube videos with ease.

Noise: This site was very crowded but relatively quiet. There are trees and shrubs between sites – keeping neighborly sounds to a minimum.

Grocery / Errands: Downtown Hurricane is 10 miles away. We could do all our shopping there and also wash our laundry in town. If you need a big grocery store or specialty items, St. George (20 miles) should have you covered.

Dog Friendly: This site is dog-friendly. River had a lot of space to play and explore. She loves rolling around in the fine red dirt!

Entertainment: Zion National Park is the area’s main attraction. It has so many beautiful hiking trails. The entry gate is about 12 miles from the campsite and is an easy drive.
