10 Best RV Parks in America | 2020 Update

Every year we look back on our travels and create a list of the BEST RV PARKS we visited. This year we camped at over 60 locations and traveled from Alabama to California and everywhere in between!

In the list we include “approximate starting rate” for each RV Park – keep in mind, these are only approximations and are alway subject to change.

#10 Sand Dune Recreation

LOCATION: Hooper, Colorado

APPROXIMATE RATE: $30

IDEAL FOR: Exploring Great Sand Dunes National Park, soaking in hot springs, and adult RV park vibes

OVERVIEW: We really enjoyed our time at Sand Dune Recreation. Stumbling upon unique hot springs is one of our favorite parts of RV life! This facility has multiple pools, an adult only area, a dining facility, bar and a friendly staff.

CONSIDERATIONS: The sites don’t have sewer hookups (a dump station is available) and there aren’t many RV Sites – so make a reservation early!

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent Campendium review says, “Great RV park. Sites are nice and level. The hot springs pools are great and love the adult only side. Just a bit quieter there. Loved that you can bring your dog into the pool area. They also have a big grassy area out back to bring your dog. ”

#9 KOA MOAB

LOCATION: Moab, Utah

APPROXIMATE RATE: $50

IDEAL FOR: Visiting Arches & Canyonlands National Park, being close to downtown Moab, and full hookups during summer in Moab!

OVERVIEW: Moab is one of our favorite towns and the Moab KOA really lets us be close to all the action. Its a short drive to downtown Moab where you’ll find restaurants, shops and walking trails. Arches is also just a short drive from the park.

CONSIDERATIONS: There’s not much shade, not a laundry room (but, there is one under construction), and its a little pricey.

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent reviewer on Campground Reviews says, “Easy access, 43.5 ft toy hauler. Friendly staff. Great pool. Nice store. Close to town We camped at Moab KOA in a Fifth Wheel.”

#8 Lightner Creek Campground

LOCATION: Durango, Colorado

APPROXIMATE RATE: $50

IDEAL FOR: Being close to downtown Durango and near Silverton, Pagosa Springs and Mesa Verde National Park.

OVERVIEW: Lightner Creek Campground was one of the most peaceful RV parks we’ve camped. There’s lots of mature trees and a creek running through the center of the park. The location is also awesome. We loved being close to Downtown Durango!

CONSIDERATIONS: The park can fit large rigs, but maneuvering might be tight. Receiving a strong cell connection is challenging inside the park.

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent reviewer on Campground Reviews says, “Excellent staff. Clean. Phone reception poor because it is in a canyon near a stream. I had items shipped to me there with no problem.”

#7 Black Canyon Campground

LOCATION: Santa Fe, New Mexico

APPROXIMATE RATE: $10

IDEAL FOR: A vibey & economical choice in Santa Fe. Great for the authentic camping feel!

OVERVIEW: As we made our way to Santa Fe, we were really struggling to find a good camping option. Fortunately we discovered Black Canyon Campground. It’s a national forest campsite located about 1000 feet above Santa Fe. The evenings were cool and enjoyable even during the summer! There are no hookups here, but there is water available and vault toilets.

CONSIDERATIONS: No hookups. No cell service. Lots of shade, so not much sun for solar panels.

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent Campendium reviewer says, “We had an incredible stay at this campground. It was so hard to believe that Santa Fe was only 15 minutes away!!! We stayed at a walk-in campground (site #5) just off the road.”

#6 Sam’s Family Spa

LOCATION: Desert Hot Springs, California

APPROXIMATE RATE: $50

IDEAL FOR: Natural hot springs, close to Palm Springs and awesome winter weather.

OVERVIEW: We’ve spent the last three winters in Desert Hot Springs, and two of those at Sam’s Family Spa. We absolutely love the natural hot spring tubs and the relatively low monthly rate ($575). The park has a dated, 1970s feel, but its VERY well maintained.

CONSIDERATIONS: The sites are pretty close together and it can get quite windy in Desert Hot Springs!

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent reviewer in Campground Reviews says, “Love the hot springs! 4 pools, from 105 degrees to cooler. Big swimming pool, wading pool for the kids. Lovely landscaped picnic area under the palm trees with peacocks and a pond that attracts wild ducks. Campground is good.”

#5 Paradise by the Sea RV Resort

LOCATION: Oceanside, California

APPROXIMATE RATE: $70

IDEAL FOR: Proximity to the Pacific Ocean (300 yards) and its close to San Diego. Beautiful urban camping that is actually quite peaceful.

OVERVIEW: We loved Paradise by the Sea for its location and amenities. Onsite they have a pool, community room and a beautiful patio with multiple propane fire pits. The resort also felt secure; there’s 24 hour security and code-protected access gates. BUT, the best part about the park is its proximity to the Pacific Ocean!

CONSIDERATIONS: The spaces are located close together and the price is steep (but, that’s to be expected in this area).

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent review on Campendium says, “This place is a great location – 1/4 mile to great beach, park, 1/2 mile to restaurants. Nice showers, laundry room, hangout area. Small spots. ”

#4 Stella Mare RV Resort

LOCATION: Galveston, Texas

APPROXIMATE RATE: $55

IDEAL FOR: Proximity to Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico. Brand new resort with new amenities.

OVERVIEW: We were amazed upon arrival at Stella Mare. The park is brand new and has beautiful concrete pull-through pads, pristine bathrooms and a pool overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. This was our first visit to Galveston and we really enjoyed exploring the downtown area and learning about the town’s history.

CONSIDERATIONS: NONE – this park is great and the price is justified!

WHAT’S THE WORD: A reviewer on Campground Reviews says, “Great place to stay. Staff was accommodating. Trash pick up, Free coffee and donuts on Sunday was a classy touch, and they didn’t go cheap on them.”

#3 Mountain Valley RV Resort

LOCATION: Heber City, Utah

APPROXIMATE RATE: $45

IDEAL FOR: Central location with easy access to Salt Lake City, Park City and Sundance. Multiple Pools and an entire adult-only section of the park. Huge concrete pull throughs.

OVERVIEW: Mountain Valley RV Resort is one of the prettiest parks we’ve visited. It’s located in a valley with snow capped mountains surrounding. We loved the adult only pool and hot tub. During our stay we were able to hike epic trails with waterfalls and beautiful overlooks.

CONSIDERATIONS: NONE – its awesome and well worth the price!

WHAT’S THE WORD: Denvercats on Campground Reviews says, “The Adult section has its own clubhouse, pickle ball court, pool etc. Park is immaculate and staff was extremely helpful and friendly!!”

#2 Catherine’s Landing

LOCATION: Hot Springs. Arkansas

APPROXIMATE RATE: $50

IDEAL FOR: Proximity to Hot Springs National Park and waterfront location.

OVERVIEW: Catherine’s Landing is a beautiful resort with concrete pads and a TON of amenities. We particularly enjoyed the onsite pool, hiking trails and disc golf course. The park also rents kayaks & boats. In Hot Springs we enjoyed exploring the old bath houses and National Park.

CONSIDERATIONS: NONE – this park is great!

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent reviewer on Campground Reviews says, “This is a beautiful park, well run, very clean…. Large long sites. Great views of the River and we would definitely stay here again if in this area. ”

#1 Flying Flags RV Resort

LOCATION: Buellton, California

APPROXIMATE RATE: $55

IDEAL FOR: Vineyard tours (over 50 in the area), and the park is very family friendly

OVERVIEW: Flying Flags RV Resort is amazing! They offer multiple resort-style pools with private cabanas and ample seating. They also have a nearby splash pad and workout room. In the community patio, Flying Flag hosts outdoor movie nights. During our stay we explored the local vineyards in Los Olivos and the Danish architecture in Solvang.

CONSIDERATIONS: NONE – this park is great!

WHAT’S THE WORD: A recent reviewer on Campground Reviews says, “I can’t say enough good things about this RV Park. A little on the pricey side but well worth it. There are lots of shady spaces at this place. And pull-thru was great and mostly level. Fairly close to neighbor but very fun, active, and friendly place”
