2020 Polydrop Trailer | Teardrop Camper of the Future
The 2020 Polydrop Trailer is unlike any teardrop on the market. From its DeLorean inspired doors to its expanding outdoor-kitchen, design is king with the Polydrop.
During his time as an architecture grad student, owner Kyung-Hyun Lew began building his first teardrop trailer. From there, Lew saw his vision form into a thriving business. Here’s what Polydrop’s has to say about their story:
It all started with a small wooden, polygonized, teardrop-shaped, orange capsule on a basic utility trailer. Its weight was only 680lbs, light enough for Lew’s partner and wife’s little 4 cylinder car to pull. They traveled with this first Polydrop prototype around the U.S. for one year.
Upon his studies at SCI-Arc in Downtown Los Angeles, the Polydrop Trailer prototype was served as a portable study space for Mr. Lew away from the hustle and bustle of the congested LA city life.
Today we’ll look at the features, pricing and specs of the 2020 Polydrop KJ 20 Fully Loaded.
Price of the Polydrop
The KJ 20 falls in line with standard high-end teardrop pricing. The fully loaded package costs $19,995 with an Add-On Package deal option of $2,500.
The add on package includes:
- Rhino-Rack Roof Rack with Custom Made Brackets
- Rhino-Rack Sunseeker Awning 49Sq Ft
- Road Shower 4 Gallon
- Suspension Upgrade to 2,000 LBS capacity
- Custom Made Window Sunshades with Insulation
Polydrop Trailer Size Specs
The Polydrop isn’t the smallest teardrop on the market, but it does pack a lot of functionality into a tiny space. Here are the key specs:
- Weight: 760 lbs without Battery
- Tongue Weight: 80 lbs
- Cabin Height: 43″
- Length: 149″
- Width: 65.6″
As with all teardrops, the interior of the Polydrop is pretty small. The exact interior dimensions are: 48″x75.3″ with a 43″ height (excluding mattress).
- Sleeps up to Two
- 48″ x 75″, 5.5″ thick Mattress
- Roof Ventilation (Fan-Tastic Vent)
- Gull Wing Doors
- Three Storage Sections
- Kitchenette with 2 Drawers
The walls are insulated with expanded polystyrene foam. The roof uses R-6 polyisocyanurate foam.
The exterior kitchen in this teardrop camper is the most innovative feature. It includes remote controlled LED lighting, a Dometic cooler/freezer, and dual expanding countertop.
Helping conserve resources, the kitchen sink has a hand-pump spout. This easily allows you to manage water consumption.
Despite their small size, safety is still an important characteristic with teardrop campers. The Polydrop includes these safety features:
- Hydraulic Disc Brake System
- Timbren 1200 lbs independent suspension
- (2000 lbs with the Add-on package deal)
- 4 camera security system with interior video monitor
Polydrop Overall Vibes
The Polydrop is the coolest teardrop on the market. The materials and design are on par with Airstream (and even Apple products). Being able to tow this trailer with a sedan is another huge selling point.
