Can Tesla Cybertruck Tow an RV or Trailer?

The November 21st reveal of Tesla Cybertruck was a sight to see! From its geometric design to its less than ideal bulletproof windows, the event was classic Elon Musk. Here at Drivin’ & Vibin’ we have one main question: Can the Tesla Cybertruck tow an RV or Trailer?

Solar power and lithium batteries are booming in popularity among RV owners who love camping off grid. The Tesla Cybertruck will be the first option RVers have to convert to a fully electric, non-gas powered set up.

Tesla Truck Design

Before we get into the meat & potatoes of the Tesla Cybertruck, let’s first address the aesthetics. This truck is unlike anything we’ve seen (since the 1980s)! It’s already sparked huge debates online, cementing lovers and haters alike.

On the Airstream Addicts Facebook group, members are heated in expressing their opinions.

Joe says, “I think I designed this in 1st grade.”

While Carrie defends the looks with, “I appreciate it’s “Road Warrior” sensibility…..just in time for the apocalypse!”

And, Bill is looking to the future, “Someone needs to design a travel trailer based on this design language, with a Tesla Wall underneath and a motor on the axels to recharge the truck.”

We agree that Bill is onto something with the trailer idea. In fact, Polydrops has an uncannily familiar teardrop trailer. We toured this unit at the California RV Show and think it would be a great companion to the Tesla Cybertruck. Polydrops mocked-up this image below to show the similarities.

Telsa Cybertruck Build Quality

Elon musk and Tesla are very proud of their materials. The Cybertruck exoskeleton is built with cold pressed stainless steel and “bullet proof” glass for maximum passenger protection. The steel isn’t painted, adding to the intense look.

Here’s what Tesla has to say about it:

Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Starting with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass…If there was something better, we’d use it. Can The Tesla Cybertruck Tow an RV or Trailer?

The short answer is, hell yes! In the Cybertruck spec sheet, Tesla lists the towing capacity as up to 14,000 lbs. With the torque of an electric engine, the truth is it could probably tow a lot more.

The main issues arrive at breaking ability and stability during towing. While Telsa has run many tests on these functionalities, the real test is having customers use it “in the field.”

The truck does include air suspension which give us a lot of hope that this can truly tow with ease. Tesla adds:

With up to 3,500 pounds of payload capacity and adjustable air suspension, Cybertruck is the most powerful tool we have ever built, engineered with 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage — including a magic tonneau cover that is strong enough to stand on.

But, what about the elephant in the room…how many miles can the truck tow an RV or trailer on one charge?

This remains an unanswered question for the time being.

However, Tesla gives us hope in the image below that a camper option will be available!
