GREAT OUTDOORS: The Best RVs for Exploring America

The USA is known for it’s epic road-trips centered around the great outdoors. Today we’re sharing the very best RVs to explore this large & beautiful country.

Whether you want maximum connection to nature or luxurious RV amenities, this list will surly have an RV to suit your travel needs.

Better still, all of these units have the capability to camp off the grid. This means, with these RVs, you can take advantage of the ample boondocking (free-camping) sites from coast to coast!

Let’s dive in!

Polydrop Teardrop Trailer

We’re kicking off this list with the smallest RV. The Polydrop Teardrop trailer is perfect for explorers who want little separation between themselves & nature.

MSRP: $20,000

Ideal For: Solo travelers who want maximum mobility.

The 2020 Polydrop Trailer is unlike any teardrop on the market. From its DeLorean inspired doors to its expanding outdoor-kitchen, design is king with the Polydrop.

During his time as an architecture grad student, owner Kyung-Hyun Lew began building his first teardrop trailer. From there, Lew saw his vision form into a thriving business. Here’s what Polydrop’s has to say about their story:

It all started with a small wooden, polygonized, teardrop-shaped, orange capsule on a basic utility trailer. Its weight was only 680lbs, light enough for Lew’s partner and wife’s little 4 cylinder car to pull. They traveled with this first Polydrop prototype around the U.S. for one year.

Upon his studies at SCI-Arc in Downtown Los Angeles, the Polydrop Trailer prototype was served as a portable study space for Mr. Lew away from the hustle and bustle of the congested LA city life.

Sportsmobile 4×4 Conversion Van

As far as conversion vans are concerned, the Sportsmobile is the most iconic unit in North America. It’s pricey, but damn good looking.

MSRP: Over $100,000 for customized 4×4

Ideal For: Solo travelers or couples who want to explore off-grid and boondock. This “RV” isn’t made for RV parks.

In 2015 Ford stopped manufacturing the E-350 Series van. This posed a big challenge for Sportsmobile, as it was the base platform for its most iconic van.

Fortunately, Sportsmobile was able to design a fiberglass replica body that can be joined to the E-350 cutaway. The fiberglass body is reinforced with steel roll-over bars and uses standard steel doors.

The body-mod most likely contributes to increased pricing on the 2020 Sportsmobile Classic.
