5 Best Small Class A RVs

5 Best Small Class A RVs

In 2020, industry trends are pointing to smaller RVs that don’t compromise on quality or function. Today we’re sharing five of the best small Class A RVs on the market.

The reason many travelers are choosing small Class As is because you get increased functionality without sacrificing amenities.

Let’s dive in.

What Is a Class A RV?

A Class A RV, or motorhome, is built on a heavy-duty frame and has that tour bus look. They typically range in size from 26-45 feet and have more carrying capacity and options than other RVs due to the quality construction.

Many new RVers choose a drivable RV, like these Class As, because they’re more comfortable to drive (as opposed to towing a camper trailer).

These are our five favorite small Class As for 2020:

#1 Forest River FR3 30DS

This little beauty packs a punch for a small motorhome, offering luxurious features often only found in larger rigs. Enjoy a king-size bed, washer/dryer, and 12 CUFT 4 door refrigerator.

There’s even a hide-a-bed in the couch and a power fold-away bunk upfront.

Forest River FR3 Specs

  • 23,000lbs
  • 31’8″ long
  • 2 slides
  • 80 gal fuel tank
  • 52 gal fresh water
  • 42 gal black tank
  • 42 gal grey tank

We love the Forest River FR3 because of the open floor plan and feel of the space.

The couch & banquette combo is on a living room slide, and the king bed is on a bedroom slide, leaving both rooms feeling spacious for a small motorhome.

#2 Fleetwood RV Flair 28A

The Fleetwood Flair is full of standard features that you’ll enjoy, like generous pass-through storage, solar-ready, and the propane access line for grilling.

It comes standard with the WiFiRanger Sky4 DC system!

Keep in mind, even though we appreciate the WifiRanger’s functionality. Nothing compares to an actual Cell Booster (they give you more control over your connectivity).

Fleetwood Flair Specs:

  • 16,000lbs
  • 29′ long
  • 2 slides
  • 80 gal fuel tank
  • 50 gal fresh water
  • 37 gal black tank
  • 37 gal grey tank

We love this small Class A for the outside entertaining opportunities.

The Fleetwood Flair has a full length, 20′ awning plus a 50″ outside TV and entertainment center. This, and the other, standard features can’t be beaten!

#3 Thor Axis 21.4

The Thor Axis is the smallest of the small Class A RVs on our list. This little rig is in a class of its own.

Thor has dubbed this an RUV, Recreational Utility Vehicle, designed to go anywhere and do anything. And they’ve prioritized connectivity wherever you are by including the Winegard ConnecT 2.0 as your WiFi router, 4G hotspot, and TV antenna.

Thor Axis 21.4 Specs:

  • 12,500lbs
  • 25’6″ long
  • 1 slide
  • 55 gal fuel tank
  • 42 gal fresh water
  • 30 gal black tank
  • 40 gal grey tank

We love the residential feel of this motorhome. Whichever design package you choose, the Thor Axis will feel more like a modern condo than an RV. Plus, the bedroom can host two twin beds or one King Bed, it’s convertible, adding further to this coach’s utility.

#4 Winnebago Intent 29

The Winnebago Intent has the coveted “super slide” (with slide topper) on the driver’s side, running nearly all the way from front to back. This design creates an open feel and a lot more floor space on a small rig.

Winnebago Intent 29 Specs:

  • 18,000lbs
  • 30′ long
  • 1 super slide
  • 80 gal fuel tank
  • 48 gal fresh water
  • 37 gal black tank
  • 43 gal grey tank

We love that this RV was designed with your pet in mind. The outside tailgate package (with kitchen and entertainment center) comes complete with a PetPal leash tie-down. And inside the Winnebago Intent, you’ll find the Pet Palace, an under-bed hideaway with a doggie door, for your favorite furry friend.

#5 Thor Vegas 25.6

This Thor is a bit bigger than the Axis, which came in at #3 on our list, and is also an RUV class.

It comes with many of the same features, like the Winegard ConnecT 2.0 WiFi/4G/TV Antenna. The look and feel of these two Thor motorhomes are very similar, the two are considered “sibling” RVs.

Specs:

  • 14,500lbs
  • 26’6″ long
  • 1 slide
  • 55 gal fuel tank
  • 39 gal fresh water
  • 30 gal black tank
  • 41 gal grey tank

We love this small Class A RV because it’s ready to head off-grid. We love the utility aspect of the build, designed to go anywhere. Plus, it comes solar-ready and with a Onan RV QG 4000 gas generator.

The Thor Vegas also comes with RapidCamp+ to make all these systems easy to use. Just use their app to monitor your power and tank levels, set your auto-gen start, turn on lights, and control climate.

Still Don’t Know If a Small Class A RV is for You?

We get it – buying an RV is challenging! These small Class A RVs have tons of advantages, but (like all RVs) they still have compromises.

A recent article we wrote, 5 Reasons to Avoid Class A RVs, takes an in-depth look at the unique disadvantages of Class A ownership. Here’s the good news, many of these smaller units make those 5 reasons no longer relevant.
