Historical Sites
St. Augustine is the oldest continuously-inhabited European settlement in the contiguous United States. Once owned by the Spanish and English, this area has become a historical tourist destination as it offers more than its fair share of museums based on its history. Some of the most popular historical sites include Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry fort in the continental U.S., and Fort Matanza National Monument, a long-standing fort used as a back entrance into the city of St. Augustine.
Other historical structures that are open for visitors include Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, the oldest Catholic worship center, and the Shrine of Our Lady La Leche, the first shrine dedicated to Mary in the U.S.
Outdoor Recreation

State Park Campgrounds
When you visit St. Augustine, you should make sure to camp at a state park campground at least once. There are several places to stay near the city, but some of our favorites are:
- Anastasia State Park: This park offers 1,600 acres of pristine beaches and 74 RV sites available for reservations. Dogs and RVs are welcome inside the park but must remain off the beaches open for park visitor use.
- Faver-Dykes State Park: This state park only offers 27 RV sites (up to 35 feet), but if you can get a reservation here, you’ll experience Florida unlike any other part of the state. This full-service campground is settled in the woods, offers prime paddling, fishing, birding, hiking trails, and picnicking areas.
The Best St. Augustine RV Resort
The Ocean Grove RV Resort, located 7 miles south of the historic district in St. Augustine, offers you the best of both beach relaxation and city entertainment. Just up the road, you’ll find restaurants, grocery stores, and shops.
Pull-through and back-in spots are available. All utilities are included in the daily, weekly, or monthly rate. Kids under 12 are free, and there is no additional charge for up to two pets. With 198 campsites, you can easily reserve a site ahead of time and find yourself and your RV as close to the beach as you can get.
You’ll find mini-golf, card games, seasonal parties, a private pier, a pool, and several other rentals available at the resort. This resort is a catch-all beach campground that provides fun for everyone in the family.
