  1. Bob says:

From everything ive heard Albuquerque has become a dangerous city with lots of crime, especially the old town which is what most people want to visit.

  2. Judy S says:

True. I lived in Abq for 15 years and moved away in 2018, partly due to the property crime and car thefts. But it’s harder, in my opinion, to be a homeowner than a tourist.

The crime rate is improving and I still visit often. The tourist areas like Old Town are safest. I’d bet Abq ranks fairly high on lists of city crime rates, but it’s still worth a visit. Balloon Fiesta is canceled this year but the upside is it’s more pleasant to visit when the city isn’t so crowded with tourists.

I park my rig at the cheap, safe airport long term lot, rather than in front of friends’ houses. But you can’t sleep there. All of the campgrounds in this article are okay. I’d choose #3 in Bernalillo, or #5, #7 next. Those are the best locations for lowest crime. None of them are in walkable areas, so you need a toad, or rental cars are cheap.
