7 Best RV Parks in San Luis Obispo, California

7 Best RV Parks in San Luis Obispo, California

With a historical mission, vibrant art scene, and outdoor activities that fit any lifestyle, San Luis Obispo put the “cool” in California.

The town’s history dates back over 10,000 years when the Native American Chumash people inhabited the surrounding land.  And since then, SLO has seen Spaniards, Mexicans, and Europeans leave their mark on the burgeoning town.

Today it has become a popular destination for RVers and offers quite a range of campgrounds and RV parks to meet visitors’ every need.

We’ve collected a list of the 7 best RV parks in San Luis Obispo here:

Pro Tip: When researching RV parks we recommend using Campground Reviews. They have the most quality reviews in our opinion.

#1 Avila-Pismo Beach KOA

Price:  $76 to $92

Miles to Downtown:  8 miles

Why You’ll Love ItAvila-Pismo Beach KOA is right off the 101 AND it has all the amenities every camper dreams about!  Watch an outdoor movie, take on competitors in a shuffleboard or Jenga game, then dive into an ice cream sundae, all from within the KOA.

Being located in such a prime spot (minutes from the beach), this campground has maxed out its location, so the campsites are a little cramped, but you are within a stone’s throw from hiking trails, historic museums and farmers markets.

What’s The Word:  A recent review on CampgroundReviews.com said, “We enjoyed how close the KOA was to the Avila Valley Barn and the Bob Jones trail. The pool, spa, and playground are nice features. The grounds are kept very clean.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  8/10

#2 El Chorro Regional Park

Price:  $35 to $42

Miles to Downtown:  6 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  With large sites in a natural setting, El Chorro is so popular that you will have to make an advanced reservation to find space.

The campsites are pull-through, with separate loops for larger rigs and smaller ones, and there are hot showers available.  The peace and quiet is a nice change from other campgrounds along Highway 1 or 101.

What’s The Word:  A recent reviewer on CampgroundReviews.com exclaimed, “Great location to San Luis Obispo, which is a fun town with excellent shopping and dining. The grounds were very clean. This is a well maintained park.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  9/10

#3 Avila Hot Springs RV Park

Price:  $45

Miles to Downtown:  9 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  Who doesn’t enjoy a good soak in a hot spring after a day of travel or exploration?  It is only the select few that can stay at Avila Hot Springs, however, because the sites are limited to RVs no longer than 24′ in length and there are no electrical or water hookups.

So if the size fits your rig, come on down, the water’s fine!

What’s The Word:  A recent review on Campendium says, “Nice spot with no hookups. Some road noise but the pools were great after a long day.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  8.4/10

#4 Port San Luis RV Camping

Price:  $50

Miles to Downtown:  12 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  Catching a campsite on the beach is the goal of many an RVer, and Port San Luis will answer your dreams, if you’re okay with dry camping.  Just point your motorhome windows at the water, and you’ll have great views with which to enjoy your morning coffee!

What’s The Word:  A recent reviewer on CampgingReviews.com stated, “These spots are in the best location on the Central Coast as far I’m concerned.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  9/10

#5 Morro Dunes RV Park

Price:  $55 to $60

Miles to Downtown:  14 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  This is beach camping at its best, with great sites, amenities and views to die for.  The campground is so close to the surf that you’ll be there in less than 5 minutes!

Some sites are a little tight, but there are several bathhouses and a laundry available, and its location makes Morro Dunes a very popular campground, so plan ahead with reservations.

What’s The Word:  A recent reviewer on CampgroundReviews.com commented, “But, you’re just steps away from the beach and it’s an easy walk to the a cute little fishing town. We saw sea otter cubs and sea lions close enough to touch.  Don’t miss the sunset just a few steps away from the campsite.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  9.4/10

#6 Morro Strand RV Park

Price:  $53 to $62

Miles to Downtown:  14 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  Well, they paved Paradise and put up a parking lot…for RVs here.  It’s actually a nice lot with several hook-up sites, and many dry camping areas adjacent to the beach, so I guess Paradise is still here for your enjoyment at Morro Strand

Clean restrooms and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere complete the beach picture.

What’s The Word:  A recent reviewer on CampgroundReviews.com expounds, “There are simple back-in sites on gravel. There is adequate space.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe: 9.2/10

#7 Cypress Morro Bay RV Park

Price:  $44 to $50

Miles to Downtown:  14 miles

Why You’ll Love It:  A two-block stroll will take you to the waterfront in the town of Morro Bay, so the location of the Cypress Morro Bay RV Park is exceptional.

It also helps that the campground is quiet and immaculately kept, although the sites are a wee bit small and made up of pavers or gravel only.  This little gem is close to Morro Rock, the Embarcadero, and the dining and shops of this quaint little fishing village.

What’s The Word:  A recent review on CampgroundReviews.com said, “Very clean, well maintained, centrally located in town. This is more of an adult park and what we were looking for. We will return for sure.”

San Luis Obispo, CA RV Park Vibe:  9.2/10
