#1 Langford Hot Springs in Big Bend National Park

Located in the Big Bend National Park in far West Texas, this hot spring used to be housed in J.O. Langford’s stone bathhouse.

The water is heated deep in the ground and is 105 degrees, containing healing minerals. The two-mile entrance road is gravel and narrow, so RVs and trailers are not allowed. There is a half-mile hike to the hot springs themselves. 

Location: At the end of Hot Springs Road in Big Bend National Park. Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Terlingua.

Great Nearby Campsite: Rio Grande Village Campground has 100 sites in a tree-lined area along the Rio Grande. Open year-round, there are no hookups, but amenities include flush toilets, running water, picnic tables, grills, and some shelters. Sites are $16/night.

#2 Chinati Hot Springs in Marfa

In the Chihuahua desert, this hot spring has been welcoming travelers on both sides of the border since before there was a border. It’s very remote, but the resort has amenities.

Location: 37 miles up 170 from Presidio, TX, about 2 hours from Marfa. High clearance vehicle is recommended, GPS and Google will get you lost so consult their website for directions.

Great Nearby Campsite: Chinati Hot Springs Campground at the resort. $25/night, with access to public tubs. There are also cabins with varying degrees of comfort from $120-$160 a night.

#3 Barton Springs Pool, Austin

If you don’t care to venture far to enjoy a springs, Barton Springs is for you. Located in the heart of the city, in Zilker Park, this 3-acre pool is spring-fed and is more a “warm” pool than a hot at 68-70 degrees. Year-round swimming is allowed. This spring is more a swimming pool than a soaking type hot tub.

There are locker rooms, restrooms, and seasonal concessions.

Location: 2201 Barton Springs Road, Austin

Great Nearby CampsitePecan Grove RV Park in San Marcos is on the river for some fishing and kayaking fun! From $42-$65 a night with weekly and extended rates, they have standard, deluxe, and premium sites based on size and location. All sites are caliche (packed gravel), concrete patios, full hookups, cable, and wifi. There is an indoor heated pool, kids pool, propane refills, laundry, and bath house.

#4 Capote Springs near Marfa

The Capote Springs are a group of springs located near remote Candelaria in Presidio County in West Texas. This water also supplies the tallest waterfall in Texas, making a nice trip. The ecosystem around the springs is very unique with numerous endangered species and plants that are only found here.

Here’s the catch: The waterfall & springs are on private property. We don’t recommend trespassing. The only way you can legally access the springs is by getting permission from the landowner.

Location: near Marfa

Great Nearby Campsite: Tumble In RV Park is located ¼ mile east of the city of Marfa on Hwy 90. This family-owned small campground has 14 RV sites with hookups and tent camping. Facilities include restrooms with showers, a full kitchen/lounge with laundry, a covered porch, picnic tables, and a community fire pit.

Rates from $15 single-$25 couple/Tent and $27-$32 with hookups.

#5 Krause Springs in Spicewood

Privately owned, this 115-acre hot spring resort is on the National Registry of Historic Sites. It’s also been owned by the same family for over 50 years. With 32 springs on the property, there is a manmade pool and a natural pool, as well as a butterfly garden to explore.

Location: 30 miles west of Austin. 424 County Road 404 Spicewood, TX 78669

Great Nearby Campsite: Krause Springs Campground is on the grounds of the springs. There are 24 sites with water and electricity, and tent sites are available. Call for rates.
