About Evel Knievel’s Snake River Canyon Jump
On Sept. 8, 1974, the world sat glued to their televisions as Robert “Evel” Knievel attempted to jump Snake River on a rocket motorcycle. The jump spanned more than a mile over the south ridge of the canyon, but his parachute malfunctioned and opened as he launched off the end of the ramp.
Evel Knievel avoided drowning by landing on the bank of the Snake River.
Despite his failed attempt, Knievel’s massive following appreciated his bravery, and he went down in history as one of the wildest stuntmen the world had ever seen.
Where Is the Snake River Canyon?
Located in southern Idaho, Twin Falls is the home of Snake River Canyon and Evel Knievel’s famous jump. Snake River Canyon is approximately two hours southeast of Boise and two hours southwest of Idaho Falls.
The canyon is easily accessible when traveling west or east on I-84.
Can You See the Earthen Ramp Knievel Took Off From?
The earthen ramp that Knievel took off from lies two miles east of the Twin Falls Visitor Center. While the actual jump sits on private property, guests can get within 100 yards. They can view the jump from Centennial Trail or the visitor center.

Are There Any Evel Knievel Memorials Near Snake River Canyon?
There’s a memorial dedicated to Evel Knievel behind the Buzz Langdon Visitor Center on the southwest side of the Perrine Bridge. It’s in the northeast corner of the parking lot near the walkway that leads to Perrine Bridge.
The monument is a fan tribute, and the jump site is visible in the background.

This 12.3-mile trail isn’t a short hike, but it’s easy and good for all ages. It’s a popular trail, but there’s plenty of room for hikers to spread out. The Snake River Canyon Rim Trail provides great views of the canyon and a beautiful waterfall along the way.
You can bring a leashed dog. The trail is open year-round, but the waterfall only flows seasonally.

Twin Falls County Fair RV Park
You’ll find 200 sites with grass pads at Twin Falls County Fair RV Park. Both RVers and tent campers are welcome. The fairgrounds holds many events throughout the year, so take a look at their calendar before planning your stay.
You might find something worth checking out while you’re camping.
There are electric and water hook-ups, and a dump station. The fairgrounds have showers and restrooms.

Is a Road Trip to the Evel Knievel Jump Site Worth It?
Evel Knievel inspired a generation of daredevils and reminded us all to be brave. Whether you’re passing on the stories of his crazy jumps with the next generation or paying tribute to the man who had 433 bone fractures in his career, the memorial is a stop worth making if you’re passing through the area.
