RVer Drives Off With Fuel Pump Nozzle, Explosion Follows at Gas Station

It’s a common mistake any RVer can make. Forgetting the fuel pump is still inserted and driving off.

Unfortunately, this week in Salt Lake City, that’s what happened at a Chevron Gas Station.

On Monday, January 27th SLC Fire crews responded to the incident on the corner of Redwood Road and North Temple. According to the fired department, “The rapid response minimized damage and prevented any further fire spread. No injuries, cause under investigation.”

2KUTV reported, “SLCFD Battalion Chief Dan Walker told 2News that the fire was caused by the driver.

A small explosion occurred which resulted in the fuel pump ending up several feet away from its initial spot.

Sgt. Mark Wian with the Salt Lake City Police Department told 2News that patrol officers in the area saw the events taking place and were able to locate the RV quickly.”

We know these kinds of mistakes happen. That’s why we encourage RVers always to perform an entire unit walk around before driving.
