The Ugly Truth Behind Your Luxury RV

The sales staff at the RV dealership may have sold you a luxury RV, but they likely didn’t tell you the complete story.

They’re in the business of making a sale and will often overstate the positives and understate the negatives.

We’re here to tell you the ugly truth behind your luxury RV. The side of the story the dealer likely didn’t give you.

What Is a Luxury RV?

Much like the difference between a standard and a luxury hotel, there’s a major difference between the two. There’s no hard and fast rule what makes a luxury RV; however, they typically cost a million dollars or more.

So, if you’re expecting to cruise around the country in luxury, you’ll need a stack of cash to make it happen.

There are some luxurious fifth wheels and other motorized RVs. But, the most luxurious ones are Class A RVs. These are the types that celebrities and professional musicians travel in while on tour.

What Is the Most Luxurious RV Brand?

While there are many luxurious RV brands, the one we give the award to for being the most luxurious is Marchi. Marchi Mobile’s eleMMent Palazzo Superior’s price tag of over $3 million makes it the most expensive coach in the world.

You don’t even have to step in these RVs to get a sense of how ridiculously luxurious this RV brand makes its rigs. Simply reading through their description will have your eyes popping at their attention to detail.

Marchi Mobile’s Sky Lounge is a revolutionary technology that uses an automatic lifting system to create a walled-in roof deck. You don’t have to use an awkward rear-mounted ladder to access it. Instead, you walk up the exterior stairwell. Yes, an exterior stairwell!

Once you step onto the spacious deck, you’ll find furniture and radiant floor heating. It’s the perfect place to host a party or gathering, no matter where you’re parking your luxury RV.

The luxurious amenities continue inside their rigs, with climate-controlled zones throughout the RV. You’ll also find a 4-meter couch, a bar, wine cabinet, and a massive TV.

The bed in the main bedroom is the same company that makes the bedding for the Queen of England and the entire British royal family. Can you get more luxurious than that?

What Are the Benefits of a Luxury RV?

Luxury RVs provide a tremendous amount of, well, luxury. They allow you to live at the highest level of comfort while traveling. Even though many see traveling across the country as a dream lifestyle, it can still take a tremendous toll on you. Many people traveling in these luxury RVs are professional musicians and entertainers.

Having a luxury RV allows them to bring their families or friends with them on the road. Not maintaining relationships through video calls and text messages means staying focused on their jobs and still maintaining meaningful relationships.

One significant benefit of a luxury RV is that it truly does become your home away from home. You get to sleep in your bed every night instead of in a hotel. You can fill your closets and drawers with the same clothes you would wear while at home and not have to live out of a suitcase. If you can afford it, why not?

What Are the Disadvantages of a Luxury RV?

Even luxury RVs have their disadvantages despite what the sales staff told you. Just like any RV, things will break. The highways and byways can be rough on any RV, and issues will eventually happen.

Problems that require you to take your RV to a repair shop may mean you need to leave your rig for several days during the repair. That may not be as luxurious.

The most significant disadvantage to luxury RVs is the price tag. These rigs are typically well beyond feasible for most people to afford. If you visit a luxury RV dealership, throw a rock in any direction.

There’s a good chance you’ll hit an RV that costs twice the price of the typical residential home.

However, we aren’t suggesting you do this, and the sales staff also will appreciate you refraining from throwing rocks in their lots. If you break it, you might just have to buy it!

What Are the Most Common Problems With RVs?

RVs are notorious for having issues, whether they’re for full-time or recreational use. Some of the most common problems are water lines, clogged plumbing systems, roof/window leaks, and tire blowouts.

RVers need to know how to avoid these common problems. If you RV for long enough, you’ll eventually become a jack of all trades. You’ll find yourself fixing complex systems and components that previously were a bit intimidating.

What Is the Life Span of an RV?

When properly maintained, an RV can typically last upwards of 20 years. However, the lifespan of an RV can be cut in half if that’s not the case. Failure to maintain critical components like roofing materials, slide components, engines, and other mechanical items, will destroy an RV in no time.

If you’re planning to get into RVing, make sure you familiarize yourself with the maintenance requirements and what tools you may need.

If you’re taking your RV to a mechanic to do every piece of maintenance, you’re going to be spending a small fortune and likely paying for the repair shop owner’s next vacation.

Are Luxury RVs a Waste of Money?

Luxury RVs may not be a waste of money, depending on your travel style. If you spend a vast majority of your time traveling the country for work and can afford it, they make it possible to live life on the road comfortably.

However, if you’re planning to take them camping on the weekends, it would be a huge waste of money. A more cost-effective use of your money would be to rent a cabin or vacation home that you don’t have to maintain between trips.
