Are Ram Trucks Reliable?

Ram trucks are some of the most favored trucks on the market. Many people choose them for their towing capacity and durability. But are these trucks reliable?

We’ll look at who makes them, some of the most common problems that Ram owners experience, and see how well they hold up over time.

Read on, and you should be able to decide whether or not a Ram truck is right for you.

What Type of Trucks Does Ram Build?

There are three types of Ram trucks: the light-duty 1500, the heavy-duty 2500/3500 HD, and the commercial-grade 4500/5500 Chassis Cab.

The Ram 1500 is available in numerous trims and configurations, including a regular cab, crew cab, and quad cab. It has either a short (5’7”) or long (6’4”) bed, though there is one option that has an eight-foot bed. Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are both options. The maximum towing capacity for the 1500 is 12,750 pounds.

The 2500 and 3500 HD models come in six trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and Power Wagon (2500 only). They have two length options for the bed (6-foot-4 or 8-foot). All models except for the Power Wagon can come in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The Power Wagon only comes in four-wheel drive.

The maximum towing capacity for the 2500 is upwards of 20,000 pounds, while the 3500 HD can tow up to 37,090 pounds. These towing capacities are only available with specific upgrades.

The maximum towing capacity for the 4500 is 30,080 pounds, while the 5500 can tow up to 35,050 pounds.

Common Problems Heard From Truck Owners?

Ram trucks have some common problems. These problems range from engine issues to transmission problems.

One of the most common concerns expressed by Ram truck owners is engine failure. This can result from various factors, such as faulty fuel injectors or a bad oil pump. Other engine-related issues include cylinder misfiring and excessive oil consumption.

Another common problem with Ram trucks is transmission failure. This can also be due to many factors, such as a defective torque converter or a faulty transmission cooler. Transmission-related issues that consumers have reported include hard shifting, delayed shifting, and transmission slipping.

Despite some minor challenges, Ram engines are generally considered by consumers to be very reliable. If you keep up with regular maintenance and have any issues fixed as soon as they arise, a Ram engine should last for many years.

Are Ram Trucks Worth It?

Ram trucks generally have reliable engines, according to their owners. However, they also have many concerns brought up by consumers. So, are Ram trucks worth it overall?

In short, that depends on what you need and expect from your truck. If you’re looking for a workhorse that can handle tough jobs and heavy payloads, has a sizable towing capacity, and is relatively affordable, a Ram may be a perfect choice.

Be sure to compare all the available options, as Ram has many types of trucks with various trim models to choose from to meet specific needs.
