Can I Use a Reusable Cup at Starbucks?

Starbucks is one of the most popular coffee chains in the world. Sustainability has become a priority now more than ever. If you want to reduce your environmental footprint, consider bringing your own reusable cup when you visit your local Starbucks.

The only real requirements from Starbucks are that it must be a personal reusable cup and it must be clean. It doesn’t have to be a cup purchased at Starbucks, nor does it have to have Starbucks branding on it.

Where Do You Buy Reusable Starbucks Cups?

If you’re in the market for a reusable Starbucks cup, there are many options. Of course, you can always purchase a reusable cup from Starbucks next time you’re in your local store.

Another great place to search for a reusable Starbucks cup is online. You can find several retailers that offer eco-friendly and sustainable products, many with Starbucks-specific designs.

Prefer shopping in person? A lot of supermarkets and local convenience stores now stock reusable cups made from materials such as stainless steel and BPA-free plastic.

How Do Starbucks Refill Cups Work?

All you have to do is bring your own personal, clean reusable cup to the Starbucks store when you order your drink. It’s really that simple.

Starbucks allows reusable cups for all standard menu sizes and beverage formats. You can order hot, iced, or blended drinks. It doesn’t matter.

They ask that your cup not exceed the maximum orderable size for a beverage. For example, if you are ordering a hot espresso-type drink, your reusable cup shouldn’t be larger than a Venti size or 24 fluid ounces. For iced or blended drinks, your reusable cup shouldn’t be larger than a Trenta size or 31 fluid ounces.

How Much Does Starbucks Reusable Cup Cost?

How much a Starbucks reusable cup costs is a question with many answers. It really depends upon what type of cup you buy and from whom you purchase it.

Supermarkets, big box retailers, convenience stores, and, of course, Amazon all have reusable cups for sale. Many of these outlets even sell Starbucks-branded ones. These can range anywhere in price from $2 to $3 for plastic cups and upwards of $20 to $30 or more for ceramics and custom-made options.

Starbucks sells reusable plastic cups for as little as $2 each. But they usually offer several options that range from the inexpensive plastic cup to more artfully crafted stainless steel cups that run as high as about $30 each.

Is It Cheaper to Use a Reusable Cup at Starbucks?

Using a reusable cup at Starbucks will be cheaper. Of course, this depends on whether it’s a to-go cup or an in-store cup. Every time you use your own reusable cup, you get a 10-cent discount. That may not sound like much, but many of us go to Starbucks almost daily, so the savings add up quickly.

If you’re a Starbucks member, you also earn 25 stars per transaction when you use a reusable cup.

How Many Times Can You Use a Starbucks Reusable Cup?

The overall goal of Starbucks is to achieve a 50% reduction in waste sent to landfills by 2030.  So you can bring your reusable cup any time you come to Starbucks.

Though you can use it as many times as you want, the Reusable Starbucks Benefit for Members is limited to three uses per day. This means that, as a Starbucks member, you earn 25 bonus stars per transaction, up to a limit of three times per day.

You still get the 10-cent discount each time you use your cup, even if you pass the limit for the 25-star member benefit.

Do You Get Free Starbucks Refills at Target?

A TikTok user’s video went viral after she posted that you could get free Starbucks refills at Target. This is surely too good to be true, right?

Wrong.

Starbucks customer service told the New York Post that this is indeed true. However, there are a few details you should be aware of. You must be a Starbucks member and have the app or your membership card handy. It’s only good at participating stores.

The good news? It doesn’t matter what your first drink is. But the free drink has to be of the same size as your original purchase. It’s only good on the same visit and only applies to refills of brewed coffee (hot, iced coffee, or cold brew) and tea (hot or iced, but not lemonade). Even if you don’t have a registered Starbucks account? You can still get a refill at a reduced price. Additionally, according to Starbucks Customer Service, this refill deal is also good at any participating Starbucks store, not just the Target locations. All the same restrictions apply.
