The Guide to 2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Vans

If you’ve caught the van life bug, then you know exactly what makes a Sprinter van desirable. They can be an excellent smaller alternative to a Class A or C RV.

But, keeping up with the newer models can be challenging.

We’re here to help you learn more about 2023 Sprinter vans, so you can decide which one might be best for your future adventures.

Let’s get started!

What Is a Mercedes Sprinter Van?

Mercedes originally invented the motorized van in 1896 and released their first generation of Sprinters in Europe nearly one hundred years later in 1995. It initially served commercial purposes. Drivers made deliveries or carried equipment in them.

Sprinter vans began appearing in the United States in 2001, branded as Freightliner and later as Dodge. Even today, they are still considered commercial vehicles.

Mercedes introduced the second generation in 2006 and the third in 2019. The third generation of vans features the best gas mileage to date for Sprinters. Mercedes also improved their safety features by including active brake assist.

In recent years, they’ve gained traction with #vanlifers. The hashtag community shares a love for life on the road and a lust for adventure. Converted vehicles have become popular alternatives to RVs because they have better gas mileage and park more easily.

If you love to DIY, then you can also take advantage of the opportunity to build out your own van. If you’d rather not build it yourself, you can always purchase a used one that’s already been converted.

The 2023 Sprinter vans seem better than ever, and we’re excited to take a look!

Do Mercedes Sprinter Vans Hold Their Value?

Anyone purchasing a camper wants to know if it’ll be worth the price tag and have a strong resale option. Good news! Mercedes Sprinter vans hold their value exceptionally well. In fact, Sprinters hold their value better than just about any other RV on the market.

New Mercedes vans carry quite a large price tag which means they have a higher point to begin depreciating. By paying more upfront, you’ll probably get more back when you decide to sell it. They also retain their resale value in part because of their massive popularity and their exceptional reliability.

How Many Miles Should a Sprinter Van Last?

Let’s look into just how reliable one of these “cargo” vans prove to be. Sprinters famously last a long time, but how many miles should you expect yours to go? With proper maintenance, you can expect Mercedes vans to run for over 400,000 miles. The average car usually sees about half as many miles.

People enjoy Sprinter vans on long road trips, often taking trips off the grid. The unparalleled reliability of the van can give you peace of mind knowing just how unlikely it is to break down.

Is Mercedes Discontinuing the Sprinter?

After the line of 2023 Sprinter vans, Mercedes will make some major changes to their lineup, but don’t worry, your favorites are here to stay.

The Metris Minivan will be discontinued in the United States after its 2023 run. While Sprinters gained tremendous popularity, the Metris simply couldn’t get a foothold in the market. This discontinuation also means that future Sprinters will only be available with diesel engines.

Mercedes currently has an electric Sprinter van in the works that we will be excited to see!

Introducing the 2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Lineup

Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of 2023 Sprinter vans.

The following vans come in standard height with the option to add 10 inches of headroom for an additional cost. They come with a 144-inch wheelbase with the option to upgrade to a 170-inch wheelbase. The larger wheelbase adds about three feet of length to the vehicle, diminishing the gas mileage but giving you extra space to play with.

2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cargo Van

Starting Price: $45,300

This van, the most bare-bones full-sized model offered by Mercedes, still comes with an impressive list of features. The list includes cruise control, maximum traction with four-wheel drive, and active brake assist. It comes with metal floors and two front seats and includes air conditioning and a sound system.

As with most vehicles, the manufacturer offers a nearly endless list of add-on features, such as blind spot assist or LED performance headlights.

You can even include a driver compartment partition if you’d like to keep the rear of your van separate from the driving area. A fan or heater for the cargo area can be added and is advisable if you plan to camp in it. If you have an interest in customizing your build, this van would give you the most room to work with, especially if you opt for the larger wheelbase.

2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Crew Van

Starting Price: $46,700

As the name implies, this van seats a small crew instead of just a driver and a passenger. It includes a bench that can seat up to three people. The inclusion of tinted rear windows makes the ride more enjoyable for any passengers you may have.

The rest of its attributes copy those of the cargo van. It comes with the same standard list of features and the same upgrade options. You may consider buying the crew over the cargo if you expect to have guests or plan to travel with more than two people.

2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Passenger Van

Starting Price: $48, 700

If you plan to shuttle around large numbers of people, this 2023 Sprinter will serve you well. The 144-inch wheelbase can seat up to 12, and the 170-inch can seat 15. The passenger van comes with the option to add air conditioning for the rear.

Fans for the passenger area and driver partitions aren’t available options here. Otherwise, the add-on package options remain the same as for the cargo and crew Sprinter vans.

This van would be a great option for large family road trips or a shuttle business. If you desire something to kick off your vanlife solo camping dreams, you may be better suited to one that offers less seating and more free space.
