For a warm time this spring, you’ll mostly want to keep to the southern states like Georgia and Arizona. You might even consider nixing the typical road trip and flying to Hawaii for a tropical getaway.
If visiting the south or the tropics doesn’t strike your fancy, some northern locations with mild climates can also be good places to see. Places like Northern California and Massachusetts tend to have fairly mild weather in March.

The weather in Charleston usually sits between 50 and 70 degrees in the spring. Usually, the rainy season hits this city in the fall. It doesn’t rain very often in March.
Families of all ages will have no shortage of things to do. Architecture buffs will love walking around looking at old houses and buildings. You can visit several historical monuments or stop at one of the many artisan shops downtowns. Consider stopping by the aquarium or one of several art museums throughout the city for a quiet afternoon.
If you’d like to spend your time outside, visit the beach. You can relax in the sand, go tide pooling, or stroll along the pier.
#2 San Francisco, California
If a long walk along a pier sounds nice, you might consider visiting San Francisco. This Northern Californian hub has similar weather to Charleston in the spring.
Many people travel to the city to see its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, but it has a ton of other fun things to do too! Fisherman’s Wharf has become a popular stop for foodies and shoppers alike. Visitors also love the nearby Ghirardelli Square for food, drinks, and of course, chocolate.
March will be too early to catch a Giants game at Oracle Park, but sports lovers can tour the downtown ballpark year-round. But you can ride the cable car to see the town or book a boating tour to whale watch in the bay. If you plan far in advance, you can even book a tour of Alcatraz island.

Sports enthusiasts can visit several professional sports stadiums in this city. The Atlanta Hawks NBA team plays in March, as does their new MLS team, United FC.
Consider taking a tour of the World of Coca-Cola, arguably the city’s most popular attraction, to get a behind-the-scenes look at making America’s favorite drink. You’ll get to taste-test sodas during the interactive experience. You can also visit the aquarium to see animals like whale sharks and sea lions.

Nature lovers will love the landscapes in Sedona. As with most deserts, it can get pretty cold in the evenings. If you visit in the spring, be prepared for nights in the 30s, but the town’s days usually heat up to a comfortable 70.
Sedona offers hikes for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Check out Red Rock State Park or Slide Rock State Park to view some gorgeous desert rock formations.
You can also drive to many scenic points if hiking isn’t your thing. We recommend checking out the Chapel of the Holy Cross, a building built straight into the rock. It looks beautiful from the parking lot and panoramic views of the valley once you get inside.
When in town, be sure to check out the Sedona Heritage Museum. You might also want to visit the local galleries for a glimpse of the fine artistry displayed in the town.
#7 Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
You’ll probably love this spot if you’ve been searching for an off-the-beaten-path March destination. The temperatures typically range from the mid-30s to mid-40s, so don’t forget your hat and coat. Peak season on the island usually takes place in July and August, so you’ll have the luxury of fewer crowds by visiting in the spring.
The small Massachusetts island, Martha’s Vineyard, has six towns. The three most popular towns, full of restaurants and shops, are Vineyard Haven, Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs. Chilmark, West Tisbury, and Aquinnah can be considered more rural.
It also has several bars and restaurants. Seafood lovers will find the freshest fish in Chilmark, near the port of Menemsha. We also recommend the Barn Bowl Bistro in Oak Bluffs; grab a bite and play a round of bowling at this fun spot.

For a coastal location with warm spring weather, consider heading out west. Carlsbad, located just north of San Diego, has average March temperatures in the mid-60s.
When traveling, we love to check out farmers’ markets for fresh, local snacks and live music. The State Street Farmers’ Market happens every Wednesday in Carlsbad and makes for a great afternoon.
If you have a more adventurous spirit, you can take surfing lessons or rent a kayak to experience the ocean. For those who prefer a more mellow vacation, try a wine tasting at Carruth Cellars Urban Winery.

With temperatures between 50 and 65 degrees, the Mojave Desert might be an excellent destination for your next March trip. This sprawling desert includes land in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona, but we recommend seeing the scenery in California. Several state and national parks can be found within the Mojave’s boundaries. The big ones are Death Valley and Joshua Tree.
If you like birdwatching, you should visit Death Valley to watch the spring migratory birds. Rock Climbers and hikers will enjoy what Joshua Tree has to offer.
One of our favorite places to visit, located along the edge of the desert, is the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. If you stop by in late March, you’ll have the opportunity to see sprawling fields of red flowers. The park has eight miles of trail to hike, some of it paved for anyone with accessibility needs. This surreal sight will be worth your trip.
#10 San Antonio, Texas
The Lone Star State has famously scorching summers and, in recent years, freezing winters. The springtime, however, can be absolutely gorgeous. Temperatures in San Antonio usually hit the mid-70s in March, with lows rarely dipping below 50.
You can take several tours throughout the city, depending on what you’d like to see. Visit the Alamo or the Missions of San Antonio to glimpse the city’s history. You can enjoy a drink or dinner on a riverboat if you’d prefer to explore the city on the water. The riverwalk can also be an excellent spot for a stroll if you don’t want to take a tour.
This city doesn’t disappoint in cuisine. Grab a bite at a local Tex-Mex place to eat like a true Texan. Alternatively, you can spend some time tracking down the best barbecue. If you’ve never tried smoked brisket, make sure you give it a try while you’re in Texas!
