#1 John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art opened its doors in 1930. Today, it’s home to several hundred major and minor artists from all over the world. Make sure you check their website beforehand to see what you can expect to see during your future visit.
Unless you’re a member, admission is $25 for adults and $5 for those six through 17 years old. However, to visit this popular Sarasota attraction and stay under $20, visit on Thursday evenings. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, they offer their Art After Five deal. Kids are still $5, but adults get in for only $15. You’ll have full access to the museum and the Bayfront Gardens.
How much time you spend in the museum will depend on how much you appreciate art. If you want to fly through the exhibits, you’ll spend an hour or two. However, remember that the Art After Five deal only gives you three hours.

#2 Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy
The Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy opened in October 2010. Its founder, Marietta Lee, noticed that women and humorous art were under-represented in the art scenes. Instead of complaining, she set out to do something about it.
While the original target audience was Baby Boomers, Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy is fantastic for all ages. It’s nearly impossible not to smile during your time at this museum.
You’ll find paintings, sculptures, and a variety of mixed-media art displays. The artists who create them are equally as diverse as the exhibits. What makes this museum different from many others is that most of the artists are still alive, and they encourage people to take pictures of the art.
As far as admission, the Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy has a suggested donation of $10 per person, with children 12 and under being free.

#3 Myakka River State Park
Approximately 30 minutes from the Sarasota coast is one of the best state parks in all of Florida – and it’s budget-friendly. Myakka River State Park is 37,000 acres of prairies, wetlands, and pinelands.
It’s open year-round from 8:00 AM until sunset. For only $6 per vehicle, you and anyone traveling with you can have a fun-filled day exploring.
Some of the most popular activities here include boating, bicycling, hiking, paddling, and fishing. The Myakka Trail is a 38.9-mile looping trail that allows you to make your hike as long or as short as you’d like.
Additionally, paddlers love exploring the 14 miles of the wild and scenic Myakka River flowing through the park.
If you want to maximize your time there, you can reserve a spot at one of their campgrounds. They have a combination of cabins and primitive, group, and traditional campsites. You’ll have a wonderful time no matter which you choose.
#4 Sarasota Classic Car Museum
If you’re a car enthusiast, this is a must-see attraction. The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is half a mile from the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Whether you drive or walk, it’s easy to get two birds with one stone.
The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is the second oldest continuously operating antique car museum in the United States. It contains over 75 antique, exotic, European, and unique vehicles you won’t find anywhere else.
Plus, the collection constantly changes, so you can return repeatedly and see what they have on display.
Tickets are typically $19 for adults, $17 for seniors, $14 for individuals in the military, and $12 for children 6 to 12 years old. If you have little ones under six years, they get in free. Those planning multiple visits in a year should consider investing in an annual pass to save a few more bucks.
#5 The Legacy Trail
The final item on our list of things to do in Sarasota under $20 is to hit the famous Legacy Trail. It’s free to use and even offers free parking at the seven trailheads.
The 12-mile paved trail provides an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty and tranquility of natural Florida. It’s a popular route for walking, jogging, and cycling.
