Here, you can see native and historically significant species in over ten dedicated spaces. For example, the Crevice Garden includes bare-root plants nestled among 27 tons of locally sourced gneiss stone. Meanwhile, the Literary Garden celebrates the intersection of flora and influential writers from around the world.

#3 Explore the Durango Wildlife Museum and Fish Hatchery
If you’re looking for a way to pass the time in Durango for under $20, you won’t want to miss your chance to check out one of the oldest state-owned fish hatcheries in Colorado. The facility raises kokanee salmon as well as brown, rainbow, cutthroat, and Snake River trout species.

We’re big fans of a nice scenic drive, especially if it requires what some might consider off-roading. Durango’s Old Lime Creek Road offers both in one stunning, budget-friendly travel package.
Hop in your four-wheel-drive vehicle and buckle your seat belt! This narrow pathway takes you through aspen groves and spruce forests high above Lime Creek. We hear it’s a rough ride only suitable for high-clearance trucks and jeeps, so plan accordingly.
However, you’ll get your adrenaline pumping and have a good chance of seeing various birds, including lazuli buntings, Western wood-pewees, and cordilleran flycatchers. And if you fall in love with the area, you can find a remote camping spot nearby.

#5 Admire Pinkerton Hot Springs
