Camping at Elk City Lake Park in our 16-foot travel trailer was a total vibe. This spot might not be on everyone’s radar, but that’s what makes it a hidden gem for those of us who like a little peace with a side of outdoor adventure.
Whether we were hiking the trails or just chilling by the lake with a fishing pole in hand, the park gave us the perfect blend of laid-back relaxation and low-key fun. It’s the kind of place where you can disconnect but still have a blast, and for us, that’s the dream.
A Quick Overview of Elk City Lake Camping
Elk City Lake Park is a 750-acre oasis located just south of Elk City, Oklahoma. The park centers around a 250-acre lake that’s regularly stocked with fish, making it a prime spot for anglers. With five RV parking slots equipped with water and electric hookups, it’s perfect for RVers like us looking for a simple and affordable stay—just $15 a night.
The park also offers a range of amenities, including picnic pavilions, outdoor grills, hiking trails, and an 18-hole disc golf course. For those who love the water, there’s a designated swimming beach and two boat ramps for easy lake access.
Our Personal Experience at Elk City Lake
Location: Elk City, Oklahoma
GPS: 35.366, -99.416
Date / Temp: We spent four days at Lake Elk City in mid-June. The highs were in the 90s, making the afternoons unbearably hot. The mornings and evenings were enjoyable, with temps in the low 80s and a constant breeze.
Amenities: This park offers lots of amenities. They have hiking and riding trails (horses welcomed), a disc golf course, and a beachfront activity area complete with pavilions, volleyball nets, and numerous grills.
There is a vault toilet on site – it’s among the most primitive we’ve seen.

Wifi / Cell: Due to the park’s proximity to the interstate, we received great AT&T and T-Mobile signals. We could easily stream music & movies and upload videos.
Noise: The five RV sites are pretty close to each other. Despite having neighbors nearby, we never had an issue with noise. If you end up with rowdy neighbors, noise could become a problem.

Grocery / Errands: Elk City had all the shopping we needed to complete our errands. We made a trip to the Post Office and grocer; both were only 5 miles from the park.
There are many big box stores in town if you need to pick up supplies.
Dog Friendly: The park is dog friendly and offers lots of space for walking. However, beware of small thorns in the grass.
River got a few stuck to her paws. There also seems to be a lot of wildlife in the area – look out for snakes, lizards, etc.

Entertainment: Elk City is on Historic Route 66 and has a museum & a few related tourist sites. We mostly stayed in the park and enjoyed the hikes and waterfront views.
The Overall Vibe
Our time at Elk City Lake Park was exactly what we needed—a peaceful, no-frills camping experience with just the right amount of adventure. From fishing on the lake to hiking the trails, it was the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy the outdoors.
If you’re looking for a place to unplug and enjoy some fresh air without the crowds, this hidden gem should be at the top of your list.

Just visited Elk City rt 66 on our way to Amarillo. Any suggestions where to stay?jpalma
Do have stalls for horses
No stalls that we saw
What is the length of the 5 slots?
Big enough for large Class As
We stayed there! Loved it!
We have a 40′ class A and it fit no problem. We happened to stumble across it on the day it opened for the season last year. One tip the maintenance guys told us is to use pliers to flip open the water covers because they frequently have black widow spiders under the lids. Sure enough he opened ours and there was a whole bunch of them. They ask if we could kill them if we find them so no one gets bit by them. Also there is an RV place nearby that carries parts if needed.
Thanks for the update! I should have also asked local dump sites.
Dang. Just passed through Elk City & would’ve loved to stay. We stayed instead at Double D in Texola which was lovely, small, clean & affordable.
