9 Awesome Things to Do in Casey, Illinois

9 Awesome Things to Do in Casey, Illinois

If living in miniature is appealing to you, then point your RV in the direction of Casey, Illinois.

Located on I-70 just 30 minutes from the Indiana border, this little Midwestern town in the Land of Lincoln will make you think you’ve suddenly entered the Land of the Giants.

Everyone from golfers to knitters, or just fans of the quirky, will have something to see.

Let’s start the tour!

What is Casey, Illinois, Known For?

As a rural community in the midst of the corn belt, Casey, Illinois, has found a way to stand out among its neighbors…way out!

One town resident created a giant wind chime, on a whim.  Little did he know that his musical structure would break all records therefore becoming the World’s Largest Wind Chime, by Guinness World Records’ calculations.  Its construction began a pilgrimage by those looking for quirky roadside attractions.

When tourists began to visit the oversized chimes, their designer, a master carpenter named Jim Bolin, began creating other “large” objects to enhance the town’s visibility.

It wasn’t long before Casey’s tagline became “Big Things in a Small Town.”  Now visitors come from near and far to get a taste of what it might feel like to be in the movie, “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!”

9 Awesome Things To See in Casey, Illinois

World’s Largest Rocking Chair

Located just outside of Casey City Hall, the World’s Largest Rocking Chair is a great place to rock away the afternoon … if you’re a giant.  It is 56 feet tall and weighs 46,000 lbs.

When it was being certified by Guinness, the chair had to rock, so several very strong men pushed the runners back and forth to prove its ‘rockability.’

World’s Largest Mailbox

The US Postal Service has got nothing on Casey, Illinois, and the World’s Largest Mailbox.

Post a letter from inside its 5,700 cubic feet of space, and the huge red flag on the outside of the box goes up to notify the postal carrier that there is mail waiting to be picked up.

World’s Largest Wind Chime

Measuring 55 feet tall and weighing in at over 8 tons, the World’s Largest Wind Chime was the start of all things great in Casey.  It can be played by passersby with a hard tug on a rope, and the sounds resonate all the way down the street!

World’s Largest Pitchfork

Grab dinner at Richards Farm Restaurant and you can’t miss the parking lot attraction there.  The World’s Largest Pitchfork is over 61 feet long and weighs almost a ton.

There’s no word on if there will be an accompanying ‘World’s Largest Hay Bale’ yet!

World’s Largest Wooden Shoes

You don’t have to venture to the Netherlands for wooden shoes any more.  Just stride on down to Casey’s Candy Depot to see the world’s largest pair on display inside.

At 11.5 feet long and 5.5 feet wide, those are some pretty big shoes to fill!

World’s Largest Golf Tee

To tee off in Casey, Illinois, you’ll need a rather large driver (also located in Casey!) as the World’s Largest Golf Tee stands more than 30 feet off the ground.

Located at (where else?) Casey Country Club, the tee can be viewed without interrupting any competitive golf games.

World’s Largest Knitting Needles & Crochet Hook

No longer holding the rights to “World’s Largest Knitting Needles,” these instruments reside inside The Yarn Studio store.

At just over 13 feet in length, the needles were outsized by a knitting enthusiast in Great Britain, who recently created 14 footers to win the world’s largest designation, but it is still a challenge to knit a scarf with Casey’s pair!

Other Giant Items in Casey, Illinois

Jim Bolin is on a roll as he continues his Herculean task to put Casey on the map.  To date, he has created more giant tourist attractions, including:

  3. World’s Largest Teeter Totter
  4. A Giant Mouse Trap
