About the Munsters Sitcom

The Munsters” is a sitcom that ran for two years in the 1960s. It depicts the life of a family of monsters. The father, Herman, is a Frankenstein monster, and his wife, Lily, has vampires and werewolves in her bloodline. They have a werewolf son, Eddie, and a niece, Marilyn. Lily’s 378-year-old father, Count Dracula, also lives with them.

Their residence was 1313 Mockingbird Lane. The family got into all sorts of hilarious predicaments. But most of all, there was a theme of love and acceptance that rang throughout the episodes.

Is the Munster Mansion a Real House?

“The Munsters” taped at Universal Studios on a soundstage and the backlot. The Munster Mansion used in the sitcom sits on the backlot of Universal Studios. It has featured in other TV shows, including “Desperate Housewives.”

There is also a Munster Mansion in Texas, a replica of the house on the sitcom. Sandra and Charles McKee created it, and it’s their actual house. They recreated each room by watching footage from the show. While lots of items in the place are exact matches, many are also from the show itself. They continue to collect pieces and add more each year.

Where Is the Original Munster House?

The original Munster house was set on the backlot of Universal Studios. For years, you could take a tram tour past it. Studios have remodeled it for different film projects since “The Munsters.”
