Sandra Bullock Wants an RV-Based Speed 3 Movie

Raise your hand if you’re ready for a new RV movie. The Speed franchise seems like the obvious choice for some high-speed, adventure-packed drama. But will an RV-based Speed 3 movie happen?

Keep reading to find out what Sandra Bullock has to say about the topic.

Get your popcorn ready, and let’s dive in!

Who Is Sandra Bullock?

Sandra Bullock is an American award-winning actress and producer. She’s been in various high-profile, popular movies from the 1990s to the present day. According to Wikipedia, she was the highest-paid actress in 2010 and 2014. And she was also one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world.

Some of Bullock’s most notable films include “Miss Congeniality,” “The Blind Side,” “Speed,” “While You Were Sleeping,” and “The Proposal.” However, that’s only a shortlist. She’s been in over 40 movies.

What Movie Made Sandra Bullock Famous?

The 1994 hit movie “Speed” made Bullock famous. She portrayed Annie Porter in the action-packed film and starred alongside Keanu Reeves, who played the handsome LAPD SWAT Officer, Jack Traven. As soon as it hit theaters, the movie was a success and is still a favorite today.

After Speed, Bullock was able to get leading roles in various Hollywood blockbusters such as Hope Floats and 28 Days. But it was in 2000 that she quickly reminded the world of her talent. Miss Congeniality came out in theaters and became an instant sensation.

People loved Sandra’s comedic chops and wanted to see more.

What Is the Plot of the Movie Speed?

The Speed franchise has released two movies so far. The first was on a Los Angeles city bus that was full of passengers.  A bomb, set by angry ex-cop Howard Payne (played by Dennis Hopper), was put on the bus and set to explode if the vehicle dropped below 50 mph. Jack boarded the bus in an effort to save the passengers.

One of them, Annie, had to drive the bus after the actual driver was injured. The plot thickens with tension as Annie keeps the bus about 50 mph with Jack’s guidance and problem-solving. There are a lot of bumps and nail-biting moments along the way until, in the end, the day is saved.

Due to the popularity of Speed, 20th Century Fox released a sequel in 1997. “Speed 2: Cruise Control” starred Bullock, but Reeves didn’t come back for this one. Instead, Jason Patrick co-starred. The plot revolves around the two on a Caribbean cruise. But their trip takes a turn for the worse when an explosion happens aboard. This time, the diabolical villain was played by versatile actor, William Dafoe. The couple needs to find the person responsible and save the passengers. As you can probably imagine, they do.

Did the Bus Really Jump In Speed?

In the original movie, there’s a famous scene where the bus jumps over a highway section under construction. But did that really happen, or was it movie magic? While the bus didn’t actually jump the gap in the road, the filmmakers did make the bus jump.

Through movie magic and editing, they made it look like the bus was jumping for longer and across a gap in the freeway. But obviously, that would be way too dangerous of a stunt to pull off in real-time.

Will They Ever Make a Speed 3?

Sorry to disappoint the super fans, but the chances of a Speed 3 movie going into production are very slim.

Since Speed 2 didn’t do well at the box office, it would be difficult to get a script approved and the likes of Bullock on board for a third installation. However, as we’ve seen with Hollywood, never say never. We can keep hoping!

Why Does Sandra Bullock Want an RV-Based Speed 3 Movie?

Bullock was recently on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert promoting her new film, “The Lost City.” When asked if there would ever be a Speed 3 movie, she joked that if it happened, it should feature an RV. She indicated that her character and Reeves’ character could be in their later years of life.

And they could drive an RV around with her in the passenger seat, arguing about directions. Colbert laughed and thought it should come to fruition.

Are RVers Ready for an RV-Based Speed 3 Movie?

If an RV-based Speed 3 movie ever makes it to the movie theaters, you can rest assured that RVers would show up for that, especially if it’s starring Bullock and Reeves. However, we probably need to wait for an RV film with a different theme and set of actors. Hopefully, that day will come soon.

It’s fun to watch how others portray RVing on the big screen. Whether it’s a comedy with Robin Williams or the notable RV in a drama like Breaking Bad, RVs can be scene stealers.
