The Grand Design Imagine AIM series is the perfect camper for a small family or couple. They weigh less than 3,600 pounds, so they don’t require a beefy truck to tow them. Many smaller SUVs are more than capable of getting the job done.
You can choose one of their six models ranging from 17’11” to 21’11”. Whichever you go with, you’ll get a three-season trailer regardless of the floor plan. Or, you can extend your adventure with the heated, enclosed underbelly and a designated subfloor heat duct.
They use fully laminated walls with rigid foam insulation and double-insulated floors in these rigs. And the new lineup has undergone testing in extreme conditions.
Whether it’s hot or cold outside, you and your fellow travelers will stay comfortable during your trips.
As we mentioned, these aren’t the biggest RVs on the market. As a result, you’ll only have space for two to four individuals to sleep. Additionally, a third of these rigs don’t have any slides, while the rest have a single slide to create some extra space.

Best Interior Features
The interior is one of the first things you’ll notice in the Grand Design micro-camper. The manufacturer has shifted away from the dark and dreary colors of the past. The cabinets and walls are lighter, providing a more residential look and feel.
In addition, they’ve installed solid drawers and cabinets. Using ball-bearing extension glides on drawers feels like what you’d expect to find in a house.
The composite countertops, stainless steel sink, and a walk-in shower are also welcome changes.
Heading to the kitchen, the convection microwave, two-burner stove, and 12V refrigerator ensure a chef has everything they need. While it may take some adjusting, you can create plenty of incredible meals in this space.
Best Exterior Features
Not only does the gel-coated fiberglass exterior of the Grand Design micro-camper look nice, but it’s also functional. It comes with an adjustable power awning, a capable power tongue jack, and everything you need to add a backup camera.
Our favorite features include the 200W solar panel and 30-amp controller. While it may not be enough to sustain you long-term for boondocking, it’s a great start.
Another valuable item is an included spray port to wash dirt and debris off before entering your camper. And an outdoor griddle makes it easy to prepare meals and avoid heating the inside. The LP quick connect lets you connect propane appliances like Blackstone grills or portable fire pits.

Is the Grand Design Micro-Camper Good Quality?
Any talk about the best towable brands in the industry will likely include Grand Design in the discussion. While no manufacturer is perfect, they’ve earned a reputation for being one of the best.
Almost all of the products they produce use laminated construction for the shell. These materials help with insulation and create a stronger and lighter final product. You’ll stay comfortable, and it’ll withstand the abuse of rolling over potholes and bumps in the road.

Who Owns Grand Design?
Don Clark, Bill Fenech, and Ron Fenech founded Grand Design RV in 2012. They combined their 50 years of industry experience from Keystone RV and created a new brand. While they started out manufacturing fifth wheels, they later expanded to travel trailers.
Customers were enjoying their products, and they experienced tremendous success. Within the first four years, they sold 25,000 units. This growth attracted the attention of a significant player in the game, Winnebago Industries.
Winnebago Industries purchased them in late 2016 for $500 million to expand into the towable business. Don Clark continues to serve as the President and CEO.
Today, they have several models available and recently added toy haulers to the lineup.
In October 2023, Clark made a major industry announcement. He revealed the company is preparing to expand its manufacturing to include motorized units. These new models should hit the market sometime in 2024.
