#1 Lake Mead

#2 Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
About 20 minutes from the city is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The park offers a 13-mile scenic drive for anyone wanting to enjoy the beauty from their climate-controlled vehicle. This loop features numerous pullouts and overlooks to admire the red sandstone formations and rugged canyons.
In addition to the scenic route, you can hit some of their 26 trails. Options include Calico Tanks, Ice Box Canyon, and the intense Turtlehead Peak. Rock climbing and bouldering are popular for those craving a rush of adrenaline.
Stop by the visitor’s center when visiting the area. You can view exhibits and learn facts about the area from rangers. These displays and programs are a fun way to learn about the park and the conservation efforts taking place.
#3 Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is one of the most famous day trips near Las Vegas. It’s a roughly 45-minute drive to see this engineering marvel built during the Great Depression. Purchasing a ticket to a guided tour gives you the chance to learn more about this incredible creation.

Valley of Fire State Park is a 45-minute drive from Las Vegas and another of the best day trips. With more than 40,000 acres and 2,000-year-old petroglyphs, you don’t want to miss this spot. Once you spot the fiery sandstone formations, you’ll understand where it gets its name.
Numerous carvings throughout the park offer some insight into the history and culture of the region. Petroglyph Canyon Trail can give you an up-close look at these ancient markings.
However, if you’d rather see fascinating rock formations, the Fire Wave Trail is another option. It’s remarkably similar to The Wave in Page, Arizona, but with less foot traffic.
#5 Seven Magic Mountains
Seven Magic Mountains is the last of our Las Vegas day trips. It’s a one-of-a-kind artistic expression worth checking out.
These towers of neon-painted boulders stand almost 30 feet tall. The bright colors contrast with the Mojave Desert landscape to captivate your attention.
The installation first appeared in May 2016. Originally, the piece was scheduled to be accessible for two years. However, it was such a massive success that the artist, Ugo Rondinone, found a way to keep it at the current site. The hope is that it’ll remain for years to come.
Many visitors love the remote setting of the Seven Magic Mountains. It can allow you to reflect on the piece and disconnect from the bustling city life. With little else to see or do, the scene’s tranquility makes it easy to appreciate the serenity of Nevada’s deserts.
