From the gorgeous shores of the Gulf of Mexico to the rolling hills of the Tennessee border, 25 Mississippi State Parks offer exciting prospects for RVers. Hikers, climbers, anglers, and anyone who wants to go chasing waterfalls will find countless opportunities for adventure.
Additionally, many of these locations have recently received facility upgrades. Bathhouse renovations, new camp stores, and improvements to trails, pavilions, and other amenities are on the rise in the Deep South.
We’re not the only ones impressed by Mississippi’s cheap camping options. In fact, Reserve America included seven of the Magnolia State’s parks on its list of Top 100 Campgrounds Awards.
Here are five of the top destinations to consider as you begin planning your next trip.
#1 LeFleur’s Bluff State Park
This urban state park is in Jackson, Mississippi, and provides a much-needed refuge from the big city. Over 300 acres of serene nature showcase striking mixed-growth forests and tranquil lakes here.
In addition to fishing opportunities along the Pearl River, an 18-hole disc golf course, and tons of hiking trails, LeFleur’s Bluff is also home to a world-class educational and tourism complex. You’ll find both the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and Mississippi Children’s Museum on the premises, as well as a much-loved park.
The campground at LeFleur’s Bluff offers 28 sites, several of which have water and full-spectrum electrical hookups. Each includes a picnic table and fire ring, and you’ll have access to modern restrooms and a dump station.

#2 JP Coleman State Park
JP Coleman State Park is in the northeast corner of Mississippi on the Alabama border. Perched above the Tennessee River, this is one unbeatable destination.
The park has tons of water-based amenities, including a marina, boat launch, and a swimming pool for folks who’d rather avoid the wildlife. The playground and mini-golf course make it ideal for families and campers who are young at heart. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities for bird-watching and fishing.
For the ultimate accommodations, you’ll want to hit the campground at JP Coleman. Several waterfront sites provide unrivaled views of the rugged Tennessee River. Spots offer full hookups as well as a fire pit and picnic table. Restrooms with flush toilets and showers, trash service, and a dump station all ensure a comfortable stay.
#3 Clarkco State Park
Clarkco State Park is another must-see destination just south of Meridian, Mississippi. This location has something for everyone.
You can hike or cycle 14 miles of nature trails and challenge your pals to a friendly game of pickleball. Visitors often enjoy boating, paddling, and fishing along the 65-acre lake. Additionally, a playground and splash pad ensure the kids won’t run out of fun things to do.
The Clarkco State Park campground features over 55 spots for RVers and tent campers. Many of these include full hookups with 20- and 30-amp electrical service. Modern restrooms, laundry facilities, and a general store will help you enjoy your stay. There’s also a dump station on-site.
Several pull-thru sites can accommodate big rigs, so size shouldn’t be a problem.

#5 Lake Lowndes State Park
Lake Lowndes State Park is another idyllic waterfront locale on the eastern side of Mississippi. The lake covers 150 acres of the park and is a big draw for anglers, boaters, and paddlers. You can even rent a kayak if you don’t want to haul your own. Many folks enjoy catching catfish, crappie, bream, and bass from the pristine waters.
Visitors looking to stay active on dry land will enjoy the tennis complex with a paved walking track. There’s also an 18-hole mini-golf course to test your arm and your aim.
The Lake Lowndes campground offers 50 paved RV sites. Each includes a picnic table and fire pit, and many have full hookups. You’ll also have access to trash service, modern restrooms, and a dump station.
Campsite lengths vary, but some can accommodate rigs up to 40’.
#5 Tishomingo State Park
Our final cheap camping destination in Mississippi is Tishomingo State Park. Located just off the famous Natchez Trace Parkway, this spot features many natural and historical highlights.
Here, you can enjoy the region’s unusual geology in the Appalachian foothills. Seven hiking trails traverse a range of landscapes where you’ll immerse yourself in dense forests, see bubbling waterfalls, and encounter interesting rock formations. You can grab a rock climbing guide from the visitor center to learn more about these opportunities.
The campground at Tishomingo includes over 60 sites. About half offer partial hookups, while the rest have full-spectrum amenities. Trash service, a dump station, and restrooms with showers and flush toilets are also available.
Site lengths generally max out at about 40’.
