What is the Allman Family Revival?

In 2017 Gregg Allman, musician, singer, songwriter passed away. That same year, the first Allman Family Revival celebrated Allman’s life and what would have been his 70th birthday. 

The event was started by Gregg’s son, Devon Allman, and the frontman of The Allman Betts. Now, several bands come together annually to celebrate Gregg Allman’s life and music. 

This year, the Allman Family Revival takes place between November 27th and December 31st.

The tour will include performances by excellent bands and singers such as The Allman Betts Band, Lilly Hiatt, Eric Gales, Robert Randolph, Lamar Williams Jr., Joanne Shaw Taylor, Donavon Frankenreiter, Jimmy Hall, and Cody and Luther Dickinson. What’s more, the River Kittens are the special guests for this year.

Gregg Allman released ten albums between 1973 and 2017, some with the Allman Brothers and some as a solo artist. In addition, he released several compilations and extended play albums. 

Some of the band’s biggest hits were written by Allman, including “Whipping Post,” “Melissa,” and “Midnight Rider.” Additional popular songs included: “Dreams,” “Blue Sky,” “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,” “Statesboro Blues,” “Jessica,” and “Rambling Man.”

Where Is the Allman Family Revival?

The Allman Family Revival is touring for 19 nights in 19 cities from November 27th to December 31st. 

If you’re interested in following the tour on your road trip, listen up. The tour initially kicks off in St. Louis, Missouri, and plays in Los Angeles on December 19th. Then, it takes a holiday break, and the final concert takes place in Macon, Georgia, on New Year’s Eve. 

OK, let’s follow the tour.

In the South, you can catch the tour in New Orleans, two cities in Georgia – Atlanta and Macon – and Sarasota, Florida. 

The Allman Family Revival will perform in the South Central US, twice in Texas – Dallas and Austin – then in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

If you’re road tripping in the Northeast, the revival will be stopping in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Silver Spring, Maryland. 

In the Midwest, you can catch the tour in St. Louis, Chicago, or Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

Finally, head west and catch a show or two in Phoenix, Las Vegas, or California in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
