In a day and age when it seems like every salesperson is out to take advantage of the buyer, it’s hard to know who to trust. Let’s look at one particular dealership, Collier RV, located in upstate Illinois.
Should you go to this RV dealership? Should you avoid the one across town? What about the big one a few hours away? Don’t waste your time on trips to RV dealerships that don’t measure up.
Collier RV might be the place you’ve been searching for to receive the customer service and positive experience you expect when buying an RV.
Let’s dive in!
About Collier RV
Owned by Ed and Jim Collier, Collier RV offers new and used RVs across all different classes. You can find a Thor Challenger Class A motorhome, a Coachmen Leprechaun Class C motorhome, a Keystone Montana fifth wheel, a Forest River R-pod, and everything in between.
One of the best aspects of the dealership is the 52,000 sq ft indoor showroom. It can display more than 45 units at a time. Collier RV is a 50-year member of the RVDA (the National RV Dealers Association).
Where Is Collier RV Located?
Collier RV has two Illinois locations about 90 minutes from each other. One is in Rockford, which is in north-central Illinois, and one is in Lake County, which is near Lake Michigan.
The Rockford location operates 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Lake County location operates 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday. Both sites offer a sales department and service department.
What Are the Benefits of Collier RV?
One of the biggest benefits of buying from Collier RV is its large inventory of both new and used RVs. Some dealerships only sell new RVs. Other dealerships focus on consignment sales. But Collier RV offers both, which is an advantage for shoppers. When you can visit one location and get a variety of options, it saves time during the search process.
Also, because it sells so many different brands of RVs, you’ll likely find what you’re looking for at a Collier RV location. Since the dealership works with many manufacturers, if you’re in the market for a new RV, the sales team can probably order for you if they don’t have the unit you’re looking for. This is a big advantage. Smaller RV dealerships only work with a handful of manufacturers, limiting their products.
Besides the new and used inventory selection, Collier RV also has its own service and financing departments. Again, this saves time in the search process when you can do everything at one location. Knowing you can contact the service team anytime your RV needs repairs is also a benefit of buying at Collier RV.

What Are the Disadvantages of Collier RV?
Although having a large inventory and working with many manufacturers is an advantage, it can also be a disadvantage. The sales team might not be as knowledgeable about certain brands and units because there are so many. Shopping at a smaller RV dealership that only has three or four brands might mean the staff really knows the ins and outs of the units on the lot.
According to some online reviews, customers don’t get the personal attention they want with a larger dealership. It’s easy to hurry through an appointment to get to the next one or answer a phone call while showing someone a unit if you work at a large dealership.
Losing one sale might not mean much. So some RV shoppers prefer to visit smaller dealerships where they believe they’ll get the one-on-one attention they deserve.
Is Collier RV a Good Dealership?
According to the inventory selection and availability of units, Collier RV is a good dealership and certainly worth visiting if you’re in the market for a new or used RV. The customer reviews also point to a positive experience when shopping with Collier RV.
There’s a large staff to help answer questions, a service department to repair your purchase when needed, and two locations to provide double the inventory. Of course, not everyone’s experience will be positive, but there are no glaring reasons why you should steer clear of Collier RV.

What Are Customers Saying?
One reviewer from 2018 mentioned how efficient and helpful the service department was when she had a couple of warranty issues. She said everyone was “on the ball,” and she “wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
Another reviewer from 2021 writes, “The team at Collier was fantastic to work with. They treated us like we were special. They responded to all of our questions as first-time RV shoppers. Kevin took so much time to make sure we had the information we needed. I would highly recommend Collier!”
One more positive review comes from a Wisconsin buyer who says, “We had a wonderful experience purchasing our new home. Our salesman Todd was with us every step of the way and so helpful. In their service department, Eric was so kind and helpful, and JJ, wow, he doesn’t take any shortcuts. He explained everything and was very knowledgeable. He was patient enough to explain everything, so we were confident to be on our own.”
Should You Purchase an RV From Collier RV?
From customer reviews, it appears that Collier RV has an excellent reputation for positive customer service and a great buying experience. Even though it’s a large dealership with lots of inventory, the sales team focuses on each customer. The service department team makes sure new owners are confident that they know how to operate their new RV before leaving the dealership.
If you’re in the market for a new or used RV and are in the Illinois area, head over to Collier RV at its Rockford or Lake County locations. You’ll receive personal service and attention from the staff and perhaps drive away in an RV that will help your family make new memories on the road. Will you be heading over to Collier RV soon?
