We Sold Our Vintage Camper In Two Hours (For $40k)

We Sold Our Vintage Camper In Two Hours (For $40k)

Selling a used camper online can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, the market is hotter than ever right now.

While it might seem like an overwhelming task, it’s actually pretty simple if you do it right. We sold our vintage camper for our asking price in just two hours over the past week!

Here’s the story of how we sold our vintage Airstream and tips for selling your used camper online.

About Our 1979 Airstream Argosy

When we purchased our vintage Airstream Argosy it was a hollowed-out shell of a camper. We spent a year and a half renovating it to create the camper of our dreams.

We renovated the entire Airstream down to the shell. This renovation is complete with MorRyde Steps, FanTastic Fans, all-new appliances, a 4-inch lift, and an incredible solar set-up for the off-grid life.

Why We Sold It

With the arrival of our daughter, we simply outgrew the vintage camper we spent so much time on. We poured hundreds, if not thousands, of hours into this renovation. But, after the most recent road trip with our daughter (and dog) in tow, we quickly realized we needed something bigger!

A fifth wheel is the next step in our journey, so we did what we had to do: sold our vintage Airstream.

How We Sold Our Vintage Camper in Two Hours for $40k

We posted our 1979 Airstream Argosy for sale online, and it sold within two hours. It sold for our asking price of $40k with over 100 potential buyers interested in purchasing it.

We knew of many places to list a camper for sale online, but we started with what we knew best: Facebook.

We listed the Airstream for sale on Facebook Marketplace and shared it to an Airstream Hunter Facebook group. Our post received 432 likes, 105 comments, and 31 shares.

Over 100 potential buyers messaged us with inquiries, and we sold the camper within two hours.

Our Airstream-renovating friends told us they sold their similar Argosy for $55k!

How to Sell A Used or Vintage Camper Online

There are many places to list a used camper for sale online, and social media is usually the best place to start.

Facebook Marketplace is a great place to list your camper for sale for free. Once it’s on Marketplace, you can share the listing into Facebook groups. There are Facebook groups for many different kinds of interests, including specific camper models.

If you have a renovated RV, you can join groups for renovated RVs and renovated RVs for sale. You can also list your renovated RV for sale on the RV Inspiration Marketplace

Other popular places to sell your RV online include RV Trader and Craigslist. RV Trader charges a fee for sale listings, and you should use caution when dealing with potential buyers on Craigslist.

The best way to sell your camper online is just to be creative! Think outside the box when it comes to where you can post your listing and make your ad stand out with great details and images.

Tips for Listing Your RV For Sale

If you want to maximize the potential reach of your RV sale post online, we’ve got a few tips for you. Whether you want your post to go viral or you just want to get it in front of the right people as quickly as possible, here’s how to do it.

Use Professional Quality Photos

You don’t have to hire a professional to take professional quality photos of your RV for sale. Use good lighting and good angles. Don’t take pictures that are too close up or at odd angles.

When taking photos of your RV for sale, take them from eye level. If you want to showcase a specific part of the RV, include a larger picture as well as a close-up to give the viewer a better idea of what they’re seeing.

Make sure your photos aren’t blurry, too bright, or too washed out. Include as many photos as possible. Buyers want to see everything. Bonus points if you include a walk-through video!

Include As Many Details As Possible

Include as many details as possible when writing your listing. Make sure you list any upgrades or repairs you’ve had done recently and essential information about the RV itself and its specs.

This will save time when responding to messages about the RV and gives you a better chance at attracting potential buyers. Serious buyers will want to know as much information as possible.

Think Outside the Marketplaces

Marketplaces are great places to post your RV for sale, but they’re not the only place you can list it!

Share your post to relevant Facebook groups like we did with our vintage Airstream, and you can even share it on your personal Facebook page.

Selling Your RV Online Doesn’t Have to Be Hard

If we can sell our vintage RV in less than two hours, anyone can sell their used RV online! It can sometimes take time and patience, but it can be done in no time with enough creativity.

Selling your RV yourself ensures you will get the most out of the sale, and it can be a gratifying experience.

Remember to take great photos, include as many details as possible, and think outside the marketplaces!
